10 Dale Carnegie Quotes to Live by this Week

When I was 12 years old, my dad let me borrow his copy of How to Win Friends and Influence People. It was beat up, marked up, and clearly well read. Even at that age, I was intrigued by the ideas of personal development and communication skills that filled those pages. Today, Dale Carnegie’s wisdom has touched millions of people and continues to provide insight into management, public speaking, and human relations.

Here are 10 of the best quotes to live by this week:

1. "Are you bored with life? Then throw yourself into some work you believe in with all your heart, live for it, die for it, and you will find happiness that you had thought could never be yours."

2. “Actions speak louder than words, and a smile says, ‘I like you. You make me happy. I am glad to see you.”

3. "The best possible way to prepare for tomorrow is to concentrate with all your intelligence, all your enthusiasm, on doing today's work superbly today. That is the only possible way you can prepare for the future.”

4. “Talk to someone about themselves and they'll listen for hours.”

5. “Be more concerned with your character than with your reputation, for your character is what you are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.”

6. "Remember that a person’s name is to that person the sweetest and most important sound in any language.”

7. “Today is life - the only life you are sure of. Make the most of today. Get interested in something. Shake yourself awake. Develop a hobby. Let the winds of enthusiasm sweep through you. Live today with gusto.”

8. "Make the other person feel important - And do it sincerely."

9. “Any fool can criticize, complain, and condemn—and most fools do. But it takes character and self-control to be understanding and forgiving.”

10. “Knowledge isn’t power until it is applied.”

Paul, I read that Dale Carnegie book after before changing jobs earlier in my career. It aptly applies to Financial guys as well. I was there when you came into Tucson and you provided appropriate professional advice to help a struggling company when the Cheney produced recession occurred in 2007. The meeting with Marshall Vest from U of A was so correct but nobody could believe it. Only the Bankers knew how the trading of packaged mortgages would produce the dire consequences which began October 2008. Thanks for the support for ten years.

How to Win Friends and Influence People is one of the ten best business books ever written. The 10 quotes shouldn't be "live by this week" they should be the way you conduct your life.
