Review on sn vs alnd in sn+ breast cancer patients treated with mastectomie: a review Axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) has been a cornerstone of breast cancer (BC) treatment, traditionally ensuring loco-regional control but associated with significant morbidity. Recent advancements suggest sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) as a less invasive alternative. We conducted a comprehensive review of historical comparative studies and pivotal randomized clinical trials. Retrospective analyses of mastectomy patients indicated that omitting ALND did not significantly impact recurrence-free survival (RFS) or overall survival (OS). The SINODAR-ONE trial sub-analysis, involving 218 mastectomy patients, found no significant differences in 5-year OS and RFS between ALND and SLNB groups. The SENOMAC trial similarly showed non-inferior outcomes for mastectomy patients treated without ALND. (Through most alnd were replaced by rt) Emerging evidence supports omitting ALND in BC patients with positive SLNs undergoing mastectomy, potentially reducing surgical morbidity without compromising oncological outcomes. However, further randomized clinical trials, posnoc are essential to confirm these findings. Damiano Gentile BRESO Humanitas Research Hospital eusoma #breastcancer

Impact of Neoadjuvant vs. Adjuvant Chemotherapy on Prognosis in HR+/HER2− Breast Cancer A recent Swedish real-world study explores whether neoadjuvant or adjuvant chemotherapy leads to better survival outcomes for patients with HR+/HER2− breast cancer. Let's dive into the findings and discuss what it means for patients! Interactive Questions & Answers: Q1: What is the difference between neoadjuvant and adjuvant chemotherapy? A1: Neoadjuvant chemotherapy is given before surgery to shrink tumors, while adjuvant chemotherapy is administered after surgery to eliminate any remaining cancer cells. Q2: What did the study reveal about the survival outcomes of these treatments? A2: The study found no statistically significant differences in survival outcomes between patients who received neoadjuvant chemotherapy and those who received adjuvant chemotherapy. Case Study & Answer: Case Study: Sarah, a 45-year-old woman diagnosed with HR+/HER2− breast cancer, discussed treatment options with her oncologist. After considering her case, they opted for neoadjuvant chemotherapy to potentially shrink the tumor before surgery. Sarah was curious about whether this approach would improve her long-term prognosis. Q: Based on the Swedish study, how might Sarah's prognosis compare if she had chosen adjuvant chemotherapy instead? A: According to the study, Sarah’s prognosis in terms of survival outcomes would likely be similar whether she received neoadjuvant or adjuvant chemotherapy, as no significant differences were observed. Call to Action: Are you or someone you know facing HR+/HER2− breast cancer? Consult your healthcare provider to discuss the best chemotherapy approach tailored to your individual case. Interactive Poll: Which chemotherapy approach are you more familiar with for breast cancer treatment? More practice-changing results from the KEYNOTE-522 trial. 🎉 Such great news for patients with triple negative breast cancer (TNBC), the most aggressive subtype of breast cancer. There’s very few treatment options for TBNC, so having one that provides improved outcomes with fewer side effects than chemotherapy is significant. Most remarkable, patients who still had residual tumor at surgery following neoadjuvant treatment received the most benefit in terms of overall survival. #BreastCancer #TNBC #TripleNegativeBreastCancer #Keytruda #ClinicalTrials #ClinicalResearch https://lnkd.in/g58Q3JqW

Closer look 👀 to PHERGain trial with CURE! Improvements in 3-year survival were seen in early-stage HER2-positive breast cancer patients when treated with HER2 blockade and a novel chemotherapy de-escalation strategy. The trial used a response-adapted design looking at PET scans and post-surgery pCR to Identigy the subset of patients who were able to benefit. 37% of pts treated with trastuzumab/pertuzumab, and were PET responders, achieved pCR❗️ The question remains who is the right patient for deescalation. 🧐 #CURE#SKMCCC#JEFFERSON#HER2#PHERGain#Molecular#cancertherapy# innovation.

Sarcoma is the general term for a broad group of cancers that can form in various locations in the body, including the bones and the soft tissue (also called connective tissue) that connects, supports, and surrounds other body structures. “I tell patients that sarcomas are like snowflakes,” says CU Cancer Center member Breelyn Wilky, MD. "Sarcomas can be anywhere on the body, head to toe. That’s why it's so important for patients to get a complete evaluation and have a customized treatment plan for their exact situation.” Hear more from Wilky and learn about the latest in sarcoma treatments here: https://lnkd.in/g_wB6TA7 #SarcomaAwareness #CancerCare #Oncology #Oncologist
