Image how would you feel if you work just as hard as your male colleagues, yet being paid less simply because of your gender, with a smaller pension awaiting you at retirement? For Australian women, this isn’t hypothetical—it’s reality. Hi everyone, I'm Zoe and I'm currently doing Master of Commerce at UNSW, specialising in Marketing and Business Analytics. Whilst studying COMM5501, I have been exploring key issues such as gender inequality in the workplace. My research has focussed on understanding the persistent gender pay gap in Australia, its causes and the solutions needed to close it. In my latest research, I found that the pay gap is not limited to wages, but also affects long-term wealth, with women retiring with 19% less superannuation than men. This systemic problem requires action from both government and business, including stronger pay equity laws, mandatory pay transparency, and flexible workplace policies that support work-life balance, all of which align with the UN's Sustainable Development Goal 5 - Gender Equality. It's not just about closing the numbers gap, it's about providing equal opportunities for women to lead, innovate and create a secure future. One of the most important things I learnt during my ten-week COMM5501 studies was how to tell clear and impactful stories through data visualisation. This course has taught me that data is more than just a collection of numbers; it needs to be presented through appropriate visualisation methods in order to effectively communicate information and aid decision-making. I would give myself an 8/10 for my learning experience and growth during this journey. While I am proud of my progress, it is clear to me that I still have a long way to go in terms of data depth and mastering more advanced data analysis skills, which is exactly what I will be doing in the following semesters. I would also like to thank the whole COMM5501 team and my peers for helping me throughout the semester and providing constant feedback so that I could better refine the whole storytelling project. 👏 😊 Watch my video presentation for more details: https://lnkd.in/eyfT7H5k #unswDataVisComm Poon Leung Yil Seung Aaron Jeong

👉 Imagine waking up one day and realizing that your school has been closed, your job has been taken away, and even your right to leave your house has been banned. 😨 This is not hypothetical, this is the reality that millions of Afghan women are experiencing today. 😃 Hello, my name is Zhou Ruoxuan. I am currently a finance postgraduate student at UNSW 😊 . For my data storytelling project in the COMM5501 course, I chose to focus on the plight of women in Afghanistan under the Taliban regime. My data story explores how the Taliban government's restrictions on women's education, work, and basic freedoms have led to a dramatic deterioration in gender equality 👫 . The Taliban government's behavior is completely contrary to SDG 5- Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. I call on professionals, women's organizations, and every citizen of the world to take notice of the plight of Afghan women. Online education, skills training programs, and international advocacy are key. Let's start by helping the women who need it most, and we can promote the empowerment of women around the world. 🙌 🙌 🔥 Through this project, I learned how to tell complex stories with data. Completing this project allowed me to put myself in the shoes of Afghan women, and made me realize the importance of data evidence and visualization, and I hope that my data stories can contribute to women in some way. I would like to thank my professor-- Dr Poon Leung and tutor Jessica for their help and guidance, giving me very helpful feedback at each stage, and my classmates for their useful advice and suggestions. ❤️ Overall, my self-assessment of my data story on this topic is 8.5/10. I chose authoritative data sources to ensure that were a good fit with the topic and that my graph conveyed the key messages. However, there is still room for improvement in the creative presentation of the visual slides. #unswDataVisComm https://lnkd.in/gagG6NSd

Economies cannot reach their full potential if half the population is systematically blocked from full participation. Ensuring equality in decision-making means that everyone has the opportunity and ability to participate meaningfully in decisions that affect their lives at all levels of society. Meaningful participation requires not only access to decision-making processes but also the ability to actively engage and influence the design and outcomes of those decisions. This is the impact we strive for through the Think Equal Lead Smart (TELS) initiative—creating an environment where women’s voices lead to inclusive policies and sustainable solutions that benefit everyone in society. #ThinkEqualLeadSmart https://lnkd.in/gTExWrpQ

📚 Which is our methodological approach? Prof. Elvira Cicognani, THE SINCRONY PROJECT Coordinator from the University of Bologna (Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna) (UNIBO), dives deep into the unique methodological approach of the SINCRONY Project and explains its distinctive intersectional framework. Intersectionality is more than just a concept; it is an approach and an analytical tool aimed at understanding, analyzing, and transforming the complex dimensions of power and inequality. This perspective emphasizes that power and people's experiences are shaped by multiple social categories such as gender, sexuality, race, class, and disability, which intersect in inseparable ways. By adopting an intersectional approach, THE SINCRONY PROJECT strives to transform power relations and achieve social justice, explicitly addressing the most excluded. https://lnkd.in/eBNXNemH
