Building resilient communities in our context means creating jobs, fighting mental health and drug abuse among women, men and youths means creating jobs for them, ZimbosAbantu Healthcare on Wheels this is what we are doing. Providing health to the underserved expecting donor or funders to meet that expense is not sustainable in the longterm, we have taken it upon ourselves to capacitate men and women alike, under our Earn and Live Healthy Lives initiative. Yesterday, we enabled the start of employment for 10 male youths and 20 women, in one of Zimbabwe's informal settlements. Empowering Families in Rural Nigeria 🌍 Family planning is not just a personal choice; it's a vital component of public health that impacts the well-being of families and the broader community. Despite the challenges, there is a growing recognition of the need for effective family planning initiatives in rural/underserved communities. Recent studies show that only 14% of married women in rural Nigeria use modern contraceptive methods, compared to 30% in urban areas. This disparity highlights the urgent need for tailored interventions. Cultural beliefs, lack of education, inadequate healthcare infrastructure are some of the barriers women, especially those in underserved communities face. What other barriers do you know or witnessed in your public health journey? THE JOURNEY HOME - The majority of youths in South Africa are without gainful employment. Many of them are equally vulnerable and out of any significant social welfare system. “Even though our youth have the potential to transform Africa, if neglected, they could exacerbate poverty and inequality while threatening peace, security and prosperity.” - Graca Machel South Africa has the 3rd highest crime rate in the world. There is a notably high rate of assaults, rape, homicides, and other violent crimes. These crimes have been attributed to factors, such as high levels of poverty, inequality, unemployment, and social exclusion. Long-term unemployment and negative labour market experiences lead to decreased self-esteem, depression and discouragement, which, in turn, has negative effects on the wellbeing of the youth. 3.5% of the population is 60 years and above in Cameroon. Of this, 6% suffer from at least one disability, with blindness being the most prevalent. 5.8% suffer from chronic conditions like hypertension and diabetes. Many live in poverty, relying on family or subsistence farming. Lack of financial security affects access to healthcare and food. Today marks the International Day of the Elderly. We reflect on these challenges and reaffirm our commitment to supporting this vital segment of our community. At Family World International (FAWOI), we believe that a community without its elders loses the richness of intergenerational wisdom essential for thriving societies. Our elders are not just recipients of care; they are pillars of wisdom and experience, guiding us towards a better future. Gender-based violence (GBV) is on the rise in Kenya. A deeply unsettling reality that demands urgent attention. But one clear thing is that before the violence is meted out to the victim, there is an initial source. These include 💨 financial stress 💨power imbalance 💨 substance abuse 💨 lack of economic opportunity 💨or societal norms that devalue women and vulnerable groups These factors often create an environment where violence becomes a devastating outlet. Kenya has a relatively high rate of educated individuals facing unemployment or underemployment. Being educated doesn't always equate to being financially literate. Even among educated couples, economic stress such as job loss, debt, or rising living costs can lead to increased tensions and, in some cases, GBV. Here are some ways we can make a difference: 1️⃣ Empowering through education: Organizations can support community programs that teach financial skills to vulnerable groups. 2️⃣ Corporate social responsibility: Businesses can sponsor initiatives or partner with shelters to provide survivors with job training and employment opportunities. 3️⃣ Access to microloans: Financial institutions can design products tailored to empower those recovering from GBV. All these are from a finance professional perspective. There are many other ways we can use to increase awareness of this vice and address ways to solve it. By addressing the root causes of GBV, we can create lasting change. Together, we can use our platforms and expertise to drive meaningful change. What are your thoughts on how the society can contribute to combating GBV? #GenderBasedViolence #EconomicEmpowerment #FinancialLiteracy #SocialImpact #EndingGBV #FinanceForChange #EmpowermentThroughFinance #BreakTheCycle #AccountantsForGood #FinancialIndependence #StopGBV #CorporateSocialResponsibility #InclusiveFinance #EndViolence #FinanceWithPurpose

While UNICEF reported 37 death per 1000 live births globally in 2023, which represents a significant reduction compared to the past decades but still highlights ongoing challenges, especially in low-resource settings. For instance, rural areas often face more severe conditions compared to urban areas. Countries such as Chad, Nigeria, and the Democratic Republic of Congo report particularly high under-five mortality rates due to factors like inadequate health care services, poor sanitation, and high rates of malnutrition. More work is needed to ensure that there are no or fewer deaths in Africa. Join us in bringing assistance and empowerment to these communities. Domestic violence is a pervasive issue in Uganda, with limited protection for victims. The key challenges faced include: 1. Cultural normalization: Domestic violence is often seen as a private matter or acceptable discipline. 2. Legal barriers: Shortage of enforcement mechanisms. 3. Limited access to services: Insufficient support for victims, including shelter, counseling, and medical care. 4. Stigma and shame: Victims often fear reporting due to societal judgment. 5. Economic dependence: Victims may rely on perpetrators for financial support.(Imagine 🥺) 6. Rural-urban disparities: Limited resources and services in rural areas. 7. Lack of awareness: Limited understanding of domestic violence and available resources to the victims. We should therefore put more emphasis on some of these issues herein below; 1. Strengthening laws and enforcement 2. Increasing awareness and sensitization 3. Expanding access to services 4. Supporting economic empowerment for victims 5. Encouraging community involvement
