🫥 UK CYBER RISK UNDERESTIMATED 🙄 National Cyber Security Centre CEO Richard Horne describes the cyber risks facing the UK as “widely underestimated” and calls for collective action for citizens and industry to protect themselves against evolving threats. 🗣️ At the launch of the #NCSC Annual Review 2024, he said: ➡️ “We need all organisations, public and private, to see cyber security as both an essential foundation for their operations and a driver for growth. To view cyber security not just as a ‘necessary evil’ or compliance function, but as a business investment, a catalyst for innovation and an integral part of achieving their purpose.” Here's the review ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e6rdEYn8 #cybersecurity #cyberrisk #cyberthreat #ITsupport #Zhero #london Izak Oosthuizen Natasha Botha Kathy Meyer Louis Oosthuizen Ryan O'Connor Macwhill Hanse Pieter Koen Elizabeth Roux Alan Ntini Christopher Dahwa Christopher Haverly Louise Niemand (De Bruin) Jacolene Haasbroek

Did you know that the goal of the Minister for Home Affairs and Cyber Security in Australia is for the country to become a world leader in cyber security by 2030? Within the new 2023-2030 Australian Cyber Security Strategy, they have proposed a roadmap to achieving this ambitious goal. 🔐The strategy aims to change the game for Australia’s cyber security with innovative measures, including the implementation of six 'cyber shields'. These shields will fortify our national resilience, offering multiple layers of defence to protect sensitive data and ensure rapid recovery in the event of cyber incidents. But it’s not just about defence; the strategy also emphasises investment in national cyber resilience, empowering Australian businesses to rebound swiftly from cyber-attacks. This, in turn, will make Australia a tougher target for cyber criminals. The strategy will change the game for Australia’s cyber security, and we’re here for it 👊 #CyberSecurity #MFA #ITSecurity #ManagedITSecurity #ManagedITServices #InspiredIT

CYBERSECURITY: AN ESSENTIAL COMPONENT OF ANY STRATEGIC GROWTH PLAN In our increasingly digital world, in which companies often carry out potentially thousands of transactions every week, the threat posed by cyber crime has never been greater. Over 560,000 cyber threats are discovered daily in the UK and the total cost to the UK economy is estimated to be £27 billion per year. Despite this, for many businesses cybersecurity remains little more than a buzzword, with only 15 per cent of UK businesses having a formal cybersecurity incident management plan in place. Thankfully, Newton Aycliffe-headquartered Crafter's Companion, founded by Sara Davies MBE, has not made that mistake, recognising the need to continuously improve its security to keep itself and its customers safe. To help bolster its defences, it turned to Newcastle-based Melius Cyber. Detailing the steps that Crafter’s Companion took, David McPherson, chief technology officer at Melius Cyber tells us how companies need to not only test but continuously monitor the measures they put in place, ensuring greater resilience and identifying potential areas of vulnerability. The ASD's latest Cyber Threat Report shines a light on the need to risk manage legacy and unsupported ICT systems. 🚨 Vulnerability of old systems: The report talks to a critical incident caused by a known vulnerability on a legacy, unpatched test server. This really hammers home the massive risk of keeping outdated systems around. 🛠️ What the ASD advises organisations should do: Consider replacing unsupported ICT systems with secure-by-design products to slash your cyber risk. 🔄 Ongoing process: The report drives home that cyber security isn't a 'set and forget' deal. Regularly updating and applying ICT best practices builds resilience now and for the long haul. Legacy systems are a liability and we need to take decisive action to modernise our ICT infrastructure. Cyber security isn’t just a concern for big corporations. The risks are real for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), with one-third experiencing a cyber-attack in the past six months. Despite handling sensitive data and being critical links in supply chains, many SMEs struggle to stay ahead of evolving threats, with only 48% feeling adequately prepared to handle a potential incident. In collaboration with IT Partners, our experts discuss SMEs' legal and technical challenges and practical steps to strengthen cyber resilience. This article highlights the critical need for a proactive approach to cyber security by drawing on real-world examples such as the breaches involving Mercury IT and Latitude Financial. Special thanks to co-authors Kelcy Ballantyne and Tim Bixley from IT Partners for their valuable insights and contributions. https://bit.ly/3ZLrEpv #cybersecurity #SMEs #dataprotection

Newsflash! The ‘CAF’ no longer refers to my favourite greasy spoon down the Old Kent Road! 🍳 The CAF now refers to the National Cyber Security Centre’s Cyber Assessment Framework (CAF) and it’s big news if you work in the NHS. 🩺 By June 2025, all NHS Trusts must be fully compliant with the CAF and it’s guiding set of principles. Personally, I think it’s good news. The principles-based approach offers adaptability and resilience, which is what’s needed in dynamic fields like cyber security. But becoming compliant is yet another process over-stretched CISOs will have to factor in to their busy schedules. Luckily, Plan G Technology Ltd are on hand to support and advise through this process. Drop me a message for a chat and coffee - we can even meet in my favourite greasy spoon if you like! #NHS #NHScybersecurity #NHSCISO #NHSEngland #cybersecurity #plang #caf #ncsc #cyberassessmentframework #secureourworld
