Ed-Tech Mondays: Zeraki was featured on the EdTech Summit Zeraki recently participated in the EdTech Summit at Garissa University, ultimately featuring on EdTech Monday Kenya. Here is a recap. The EdTech Summit was convened by EdTech East Africa in partnership with the Frontier County Development Council (FCDC) to spark edtech conversations in the frontier region. Graced by entrepreneurs, students, teachers, education experts, and policymakers, the summit discussed the landscape of edtech in the frontier counties, with panelists highlighting the need to redefine and properly engage all education stakeholders who can bring value to education in the region in conversations about leveraging technology to provide education to all. The summit continued to hail teachers as agents of change in this digital migration citing that, when the teachers are empowered, even the students will be empowered. Among Edtech visionaries who shared their sentiments on creating new ways to learn was Zeraki’s very own Zacch M'copondo (see in video). Innovation is crucial to curbing disruptions that affect quality education delivery. This year’s theme for the summit was Education Technology for Resilient and Inclusive Learning in Africa. Visionaries invited have affirmed the need for innovative and accessible digital content for all learners. CALL TO ACTION! The potential of EdTech transforming learning outcomes and education in general is no longer in question. However, for Africa to realize the full potential of EdTech interventions we need an EdTech ecosystem that applies a context-driven approach focusing on addressing the key challenges and opportunities of the region. Building relevant, scalable, and sustainable EdTech ecosystem that work for Africa, means prioritizing 5 key elements: 📌 Accessibility: digital divide remains a significant barrier in many parts of Africa. Access to affordable devices, infrastructure, and reliable internet connectivity is almost non-existent. Sustainable EdTech ecosystems must therefore address these challenges and promoters of digital divide for any EdTech interventions and programs to bear fruits. 📌 Relevance: creators and builders of EdTech solutions must come up with solutions that are culturally and contextually relevant for Africa. There is no plug-and-play, one-size-fits-all approach to a sustainable and impactful learning outcome. 📌 Collaboration: the African EdTech ecosystem stakeholder must embrace the collective intelligence mantra to build sustainable ecosystem – ‘that we’re more intelligent together, we’re smarter together’. This approach is the cornerstone of a thriving EdTech ecosystem. Building EdTech communities that encourage partnerships and collaborations holds the key to unlocking the safe that’s African EdTech ecosystem. 📌 Scalability: there can never be growth and sustainability without scale. Whether for reach, impact, profit OR all, EdTech ecosystem stakeholders need to be intentional and plan for scalable solutions and interventions. 📌 Sustainability: in the long-run, impact is all about sustainability. Hard-pressing on a gas pedal with an empty gas tank is an effort in futility. EdTech initiatives must therefore be cognisant of the sustainability component. This calls for innovative and all-inclusive approaches such as capacity-building programs for teachers and education administrators, and user-led financing models, such as public-private partnerships, and cost-sharing mechanisms. Why build an EdTech ecosystem? I look at an ecosystem as a family ... a community of people sharing similar or related aspirations/dreams and goals, and are committed to a concerted effort in living them. Therefore, just like in a family, an ecosystem requires leadership, guidance and mentorship to thrive. As an EdTech leader and enthusiast I believe that for Africa to build a relevant, responsive, scalable and sustainable EdTech ecosystem, we need an all-inclusive discussion and effort encompassing: governments, private sector players, EdTech investors/funders, EdTech entrepreneurs, schools, and all other education stakeholders. By involving the above, Africa shall succeed in building a resilient education ecosystem beyond 2030....OR as captured in the below 'linked' report by Mastercard Foundation... "...a collective effort between governments, private sector players, institutions of learning, educators, teachers and learners brings home the call to action – edtech is the most practical way to leapfrog Africa’s education learning outcomes, but this can only be done with intentional evidence-based, impact-driven and affordable investments for Africa’s fast-growing population." https://lnkd.in/dsNQ6fwV Mastercard Foundation Zoezi Education EdTech East Africa
