Happy #ScienceDay!🔬 World Science Day for Peace and Development shines a light on the vital role of #science in society, bridging the gap between scientific advancements and everyday life. In 2024, UNESCO also launches the International Decade of Science for Sustainable Development (2024-2033), a global initiative to harness the power of science in addressing challenges like #ClimateChange. Connecting science with society helps empower citizens, restore trust in scientific knowledge, and inspire action toward a more #sustainable future. 📸 France’s new #stamp commemorating the Decade, issued by La Poste Groupe in partnership with UNESCO. https://bit.ly/3UF5eU7

🌍 Celebrating International Week of Science and Peace 🕊️🔬 9-15 November 2024 This week, we join the global community in celebrating the International Week of Science and Peace a time to reflect on the powerful role science plays in promoting peace, fostering understanding, and advancing sustainable development. Science has always been a critical tool for solving some of the world's most pressing challenges. Whether it’s in health, education, technology, or the environment, scientific innovation can bridge divides, create solutions, and offer a path to peace. The International Week of Science and Peace reminds us that science when used for the greater good, can be a unifying force that transcends borders and brings people together. Why is this week important? 🌱 Promoting Global Cooperation: Science connects people across nations, cultures, and ideologies. It reminds us that we share a common humanity and a collective responsibility to build a peaceful world. 🕊️ Fostering Peace Through Knowledge: Education and research empower individuals and communities to challenge conflict, prevent violence, and support social harmony. 💡 Innovating for a Better Future: The week also calls attention to the ways science can address urgent global issues such as climate change, access to clean water, and health crises all of which have direct implications for peace and stability. At Kafka, we believe that investing in science and education is one of the most effective ways to foster peace and long-term development. As we mark this important week, we encourage everyone young and old, scientists and non-scientists alike to recognize the ways in which they can contribute to peace through innovation, collaboration, and the pursuit of knowledge. Let’s use this week as a reminder that together, through science, we have the power to build a more peaceful, sustainable, and just world. 🌍✨ #ScienceForPeace #InternationalWeekOfScienceAndPeace #PeaceThroughScience #SustainableDevelopment #InnovationForGood #GlobalCooperation #NonprofitImpact #SocialGood #ScienceForChange

In troubling times, what role is there for science to play? This weekend, we mark the World Science Day for Peace and Development, on 10 November. It's a time to reflect on the positive - and often understated - influence research can have on society. To mark the occasion last year, we compiled a list of projects advancing science's positive legacy: from improving conflict resolution to delivering on the #SustainableDevelopmentGoals. Give these projects and read - and let us reflect on how research, its results and findings, can contribute to creating the conditions for peace and in turn, allow for societies to flourish. #WorldScienceDay #PeaceDay

🌏 Exciting Global Discussion on the Future of Scientific Literacy! 🌎 Today, I had the privilege of representing EUSEA - European Science Engagement Association and COLOURS European University Alliance at a highly insightful Expert Roundtable held at UNESCO in Paris on "Empowering the Global Community Through Scientific Literacy". Co-organized by UNESCO and the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), the hybrid event was an important step towards advancing scientific literacy as a key driver for achieving the goals of the "United Nations International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development". The Roundtable presented the strategic approach of UNESCO for the Decade (great to see a strong focus on "Open Science" and the importance of "Knowledge Ecosystems"), plus an input from the China Research Institute for Science Popularization (CRISP) with perspectives on how to implement this strategy in China. The discussion covered a reflection of impactful strategies in #sciencecommunication, #education, and #sciencepolicy on a global scale. It provided a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas with international experts and networks on how science literacy can drive sustainable development worldwide. Great to meet the leadership of international #publicengagement networks such as #pcst #ecsite and #redpop plus highly appreciated global colleagues shaping the field, such as Anne Dijkstra, Ganigar Chen, Andrea Brunello. I’m looking forward to continuing this important work together with all partners and networks! 🌐💡Thank you for your recommendation to join this precious meeting, ZHIMIN ZHANG! #ScienceLiteracy #SustainableDevelopment #UNESCO #CAST #UnitedNations #GlobalCommunity #OpenScience #ScienceForAll #RoundtableDiscussion Find out more about the decade here: https://lnkd.in/eZ_rvZM9
