(USA 11.07.24) #growingproduce Field Scouting Guide: Eastern Black Nightshade. The article from Growing Produce provides a field scouting guide for Eastern Black Nightshade, a common weed in vegetable crops. Key points include: Identification: Eastern Black Nightshade is characterized by its broad, ovate leaves, white to purple flowers, and small, black berries. It can grow up to 3 feet tall and is often found in fields, gardens, and disturbed areas. Impact: This weed competes with crops for nutrients, water, and light and its berries can contaminate harvested produce, posing a risk to crop quality and marketability. Management: Effective management strategies include crop rotation, the use of pre-emergent and post-emergent herbicides, and mechanical control methods like tilling. Monitoring and early detection are crucial for preventing its spread. The guide emphasizes the importance of integrated weed management practices to control Eastern Black Nightshade in agricultural settings. ----- [AG: Eastern Black Nightshade, known scientifically as Solanum nigrum, is present in Australia. It is regarded as an environmental weed in several regions, including Victoria, Western Australia, New South Wales, Queensland and the Northern Territory] ----- https://lnkd.in/g2ePNUC4

Hydroponic Melon Cultivation: The Disease-Resistant Varieties Thriving in Limited Spaces Hydroponic melon cultivation is fast becoming a popular solution for farmers with limited land who seek to maximize their yield of high-quality fruits. With this method, fertile soil is no longer a requirement, as plants grow in nutrient-rich solutions that ensure optimal development. One remarkable example of success comes from the village of Samirplapan, in […] https://lnkd.in/ecgNz3s4

🚨 Important Update 🚨 The APVMA has proposed removing the broad claims that allow the use of paraquat and diquat in "Row crops, Vegetables, and Market Gardens" due to identified environmental risks, particularly their impact on wild mammals and birds. This means that access to paraquat and paraquat/diquat formulations will be lost for all vegetables and row crops, including melons. However, diquat will still be available for some vegetables and row crops (excluding melons/cucurbits). Melons Australia is working closely with other Peak Industry Bodies to assess the potential impact on melon growers. We need your feedback! 1. Do you currently use paraquat and/or diquat, including in combination? Yes/No 1a. If yes, for what purpose are you using it, and are there alternative chemicals or treatments available? 2. How would losing access to these chemicals affect your melon production and crop management? 3. Do you have any other details or comments that could help us prepare a response to this consultation process? 📧 Please send your input to [email protected]. For more details on the proposal, click here > https://lnkd.in/gJwz2krJ

🌾🌾 GROWER STORY Each year, GRDC's GroundCover follows a group of growers from across Australia as they manage the cropping season. Mitch Henderson, with parents Craig and Pauline, brother Ben, cousin John and their families, grow wheat, barley, lentils and oaten hay in Berriwillock, Wilkur and Brim in Victoria’s Mallee. They also rear poultry, using their wheat straw as bedding and then spreading it back on to paddocks as manure in a closed-loop system. "With summer weed control, our profile and the current forecast, everything is pointing towards an average or above-average year. We had 25mm of rain mid-March, which gave us a bit of a weed flush, especially in the wheel tracks we had renovated after changing our boom from 43 to 48 metres. So we finished the summer weed program camera-spraying them from the boom with a Bilberry system. We got the technology in mid-January and had done 12,000ha in 230 hours by the end of March. Because we can target specific weeds, we’re using higher chemical concentrations but reducing the total litres used. So there’s savings on chemicals and we’re getting better efficiency because we are not having to fill up as often. So we’re pretty happy. We spread chicken manure from our broiler birds in March. It’s relatively light – about four to 5t/ha – but it provides some natural fertiliser and aids our phosphorus and trace elements. There’s a noticeable difference in the green vibrancy of the crops and more biomass but the ‘lie-detectors’ (headers) haven’t noticed a significant yield increase as yet. While it hasn’t been a game changer, I still think it’s well worth the hassle. We started sowing in April with hay, moving into barley and lentils and we’ll aim to finish with wheat by the third week of May. We have traditionally sown one variety each of wheat, barley and lentils to get over hectares quickly without too much fuss, but this year we are sowing two lentils (GIA Thunder and PBA Hallmark XT) and three wheats (Scepter, Calibre and Tomahawk CL Plus). Having Clearfieldâ tolerance, Tomahawk CL Plus will give us an insight into some different tools." How to use #Triacontanol? ① Use Triacontanol to soak seeds. Before the seeds germinate, soak the seeds with 1000 times solution of 0.1% triacontanol microemulsion for two days, then germinate and sow. For dryland crops, soak the seeds with 1000 times solution of 0.1% triacontanol microemulsion for half a day to a day before sowing. Soaking seeds with Triacontanol can enhance the germination trend and improve the germination ability of seeds. ② Spray Triacontanol on the leaves of crops, that is, spray once at the beginning and peak flowering stages, and use 2000 times solution of 0.1% Triacontanol microemulsion to spray the leaves to promote the formation of flower buds, flowering, pollination and fruit setting rate. ③ Use Triacontanol to soak seedlings. During the seedling stage of crops, such as kelp, laver and other aquatic plant cultivation, use 7000 times solution of 1.4% Triacontanol milk powder to immerse the seedlings for two hours, which is conducive to early seedling separation and large seedling growth, growing strong seedlings, early maturity and increasing yield.

A Guide On Fig Fruit Cultivation In Kenya & Where To Buy Fig Seedlings 0790-509684 Figs are fun and fairly easy to grow, but there are a few important things to learn about fig tree care. When good drainage is provided figs can grow in a wide range of soil, but they need a site free of root-knot nematodes. For good fruit crops, and vigorous growth, plant in full sunlight. Cold injury will be further reduced if the fig does not receive direct sunlight early in the morning or late in the evening. https://lnkd.in/dAb9ZhPe

✨Evaluating cinnamon quality standards in crops, cultivation, and harvesting activities✨ 🍂To evaluate the cinnamon quality standards, we need to pay attention to the quality of the cinnamon tree as well as the standard cultivation and harvesting activities. Accordingly, in order to get high-quality cinnamon, the seeds, soil, light, and water conditions for the plant must be favorable. Cinnamon trees need to be cultivated carefully such as providing nutrients regularly, killing insects, and clearing weeds around the trees. 🍂Specifically, a cinnamon tree that produces good quality cinnamon needs to be at least more than 10 years old and healthy. In fact, 2 pieces of cinnamon of the same variety but closer to the root, the higher the quality. If we develop cinnamon widely, the plant variety is not certified, leading to very poor cinnamon quality standards with low prices: thin bark, low essential oil content, and not meeting high-quality standards. If we research and put high-yielding and high-quality cinnamon varieties into planting, the seedlings are strictly certified, and they will produce cinnamon with high-quality standards. 🍂K-Agriculture is exporting various kinds of cinnamon with high quality and competitive prices.
