“If you build your AI system off the content on the web, you’re embedding inequalities in that.” The foundation of AI systems is often built on existing technological frameworks, which already harbor many inequalities in them. What's important about this interconnectedness? It underscores the importance of ensuring that AI development takes inclusivity and accessibility into account at all stages. #AI #Inclusion #Accessibility #DigitalDivide

As we stand at the intersection of technology and creativity, it's undeniable that Artificial Intelligence is reshaping the digital landscape in unprecedented ways. However, this transformation has sparked a fascinating debate within the artistic community, where some creators are expressing concerns about the impact of AI on their craft. For many artists, the advent of AI has brought forth a duality in the digital realm. On one side, we witness the incredible potential of AI to augment and amplify artistic expression, offering new tools and possibilities. On the flip side, a growing sentiment echoes concerns that AI might be encroaching upon the creative space, with some artists feeling their roles are being replaced rather than enriched. One notable concern revolves around the perception that AI is not creating anything entirely new but rather repurposing preloaded assets. Some artists argue that the soul and uniqueness of human creativity are irreplaceable, expressing frustration that AI-generated content might lack the depth and nuance born out of genuine human experiences. Without the "divine spark" is it truly Art? Evidence from various artistic communities reveals a spectrum of opinions. While some embrace AI as a collaborator, leveraging its capabilities to push boundaries, others worry about losing the authenticity and individuality that define their work. Striking the right balance between human ingenuity and AI assistance is becoming a key challenge in this evolving digital era. The key lies in fostering a balance between artists and AI, acknowledging the strengths of both. AI can be a powerful ally, offering efficiency, inspiration, and novel perspectives, while artists continue to infuse their creations with the essence of human emotion and storytelling. I for one am excited about the potential opportunity to stretch my imagination and see beyond what was, and move into an ever-changing era of what could be.

At the Global ERG Network, we believe that fostering diversity in all spaces is crucial—especially in Artificial Intelligence (AI). As AI continues to shape industries and lives, the need for diverse perspectives in its development is more urgent than ever. At the 2024 GEN Conference, our attendees explored and innovated new ideas in the hackathon, "Leveraging AI for Your ERG"! The recent Fem.AI summit highlighted that the inclusion of women and underrepresented groups in AI isn't just about equity—it's about innovation and creating systems that serve everyone. Without intentional diversity, AI risks perpetuating biases, limiting creativity, and excluding entire communities. We support initiatives like Fem.AI that drive diversity, foster inclusive solutions, and ensure AI’s future is built for all of society. Because true innovation only happens when everyone’s voice is heard. Learn more about the summit and the benefits of AI in this article. #GENC2024 #AI #WorkplaceCulture #Equity

Shane Snider's insightful article (and great photo) "AI Needs a Human Touch for DEI Efforts" for InformationWeek features moments from my recent speech at the North Carolina Technology Association (NC TECH)'s 2024 Diversity and Inclusion in Tech Summit. In the piece, Shane touches on the need for human intervention in #AI, especially regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion (#DEI) within the tech industry. As we navigate through the advancements of AI, it becomes increasingly evident that to truly understand and implement DEI, we must ensure that our technological endeavors are as inclusive and diverse as the human experiences they seek to emulate. Let's continue the conversation and work towards a future where AI and DEI are not at odds, but in harmony, reflecting the full spectrum of human diversity and intelligence. #DiversityInTech

👏Conversations about AI challenges and opportunities at the UN level show that these topics should also be on the agenda of international institutions. As global forums fostering discussions and cooperation on matters impacting people and their environment, they are well positioned to be(come) the major partners of the private sector in the global AI race, especially the big players. 🤝No surprise that bias and divide in AI deployment came up as focus points in meetings and events bringing experts together during the High-Level Week of the UN General Assembly last September. Ultimately, it is all about ensuring that innovation in/with AI does not happen at the expense of some groups of people and some parts of the world.
