2 successful years for me at SGT Auto Transport. 2 years where people above me were demanding of me, and I demanded more of myself than anyone else. I used to set higher targets for myself than my managers set for me, I chased them and achieved them. If my promotion to Senior Agent came as a surprise to anyone, it was not to me because it was one of my goals from day one and I lived with that thought and vision going forward. I worked harder, stole knowledge and experience from those who are proven, showed results and proactivity and never stopped chasing my next goal. I heard "NO" but it only filled my tank with fuel and motivation, and I received valuable advice on how to reach my next "checkpoint" on my road to success. The next 6 months were nothing different from what I'm pretty good at - setting goals and achieving them. Starting this month, I start in this new room and office, forming my new team. Today, I want to share a powerful lesson in collaboration, discipline, and excellence—inspired by the **U.S. Navy Blue Angels**. ## **1. The Blue Angels: A Symphony of Precision** The Blue Angels, established in 1946, serve as a proud symbol of the Navy and Marine Corps' finest. Their awe-inspiring formations and death-defying maneuvers have inspired millions of spectators worldwide. But beyond the thrilling airshows, the Blue Angels exemplify the true essence of teamwork. ## **2. Trust at 500 Miles Per Hour** Imagine flying directly at each other, less than **100 feet off the ground**, at speeds pushing **500 miles per hour**. Mistakes are not an option. The Blue Angel pilots understand that success hinges on an **unfettering commitment to trust**. They know that their lives depend on each other. It's a lesson we can all apply in our professional lives. ## **3. Lifehack #1: Be Thankful** During debriefs, after every flight, each pilot says, "Glad to be here." Whether they've flown a flawless demo or made mistakes, they express gratitude. Why? Because being part of the Blue Angels team is a privilege. No matter the challenges, they remember that many naval aviators would love to be in their seats. As professionals, we must also appreciate the honor and privilege of our roles. ## **4. Lifehack #2: Admit Mistakes, Strive for Excellence** The Blue Angels don't shy away from acknowledging mistakes. They debrief openly, learn, and improve. As salespeople, we can embrace this mindset. When we stumble, we learn. When we excel, we celebrate. It's how we grow. ## **5. Lifehack #3: Shared Values and Proper Training** The Blue Angels operate on shared values—integrity, discipline, and precision. They cross-train relentlessly, ensuring everyone knows their role. I set out on an expert mission with an apprentice tool kit. The result? A hearty "Go f*ck yourself" from my subordinate. As a freshly minted E6 deployed to the Middle East, I was eager to prove myself as a leader. One of my team members was causing friction, and the others looked to me for help. I acted quickly and decisively, wielding my shiny new rank like a hammer, demanding compliance rather than showing compassion. The result? A well-deserved "Go f*ck yourself" from my subordinate. What went wrong? I led with my position, not my passion. I was abrasive, overly direct, and blind to the reasons behind my NCO’s behavior. Instead of understanding and addressing the underlying issues, I escalated, provoked, and ultimately failed him. After the heat of the moment, I reflected on what had happened and realized: 💠 I was responsible for that escalation. 💠 I was responsible for provoking that NCO. 💠 I failed. Once the dust settled, I went back to apologize. That conversation revealed the "why" behind his actions. We began to mend our relationship, though it never fully recovered. I learned so many lessons that day that shaped my Air Force journey, here are just a few: ✅ Lead from your passion, not your position. ✅ Listen more, speak less. ✅ A hammer has its place in a tool kit, but use it sparingly.
