My daughter just returned from an 18-month volunteer service mission. Needless to say, we are thrilled to have her back home with us, but also, I noticed a big change in her. She is still the same bubbly, energetic person she has always been, but after focusing on a singular goal for such a long period of time, she is much more mature, more effective of a teacher and more confident in herself. In business, as in life, when we are able to dedicate ourselves to a singular focus, we see massive improvements. As we strive to improve our businesses, we are much more successful when we can eliminate the noises and the distractions around us. Although we may not be able to focus on just one thing for 18-months, even establishing focus periods every day or every week can help us to be better. When we are trying to do too much, everything suffers. Instead, focus on what is most important to you or on what has the potential to provide the biggest impact.

Moving to a new country is never just a move. I always say that I feel like a 2-year-old, learning my first words and taking my first steps in every area of my life. But the most challenging one, without a doubt, has been my professional journey. With almost 20 years of experience in Events and the artistic field, across various roles, I’ve always considered myself an excellent professional – dedicated and passionate about what I do. I’ve worked with love in every opportunity I’ve had, and the results have always been rewarding. I love my job! However, when you move to a new country, you realize that you need to relearn everything. The language is different, as is the culture. And, as we know, events are about connecting people, communities, and brands – all based on local culture. Since arriving in South Carolina, USA, I decided to dedicate myself to studying and volunteering at events. Wherever there’s an opportunity, I’m there – even if it’s just to listen and learn. That’s how I give my best and receive the best in return. I’ve formed partnerships that I know will last a lifetime. I’ve had the privilege of participating in several events, such as the Block Party organized by the Public Works Art Center , the Songwriters Festival and the Sweet Tea Festival – one of the largest community festivals in Summerville, SC. I also helped set up the Farmers Market, a local producers’ fair filled with emotional stories. Volunteering has shaped me into the professional I want to be. I’m so grateful for all the opportunities I’ve received. My advice? Always study, in any way you can. Knowledge is something no one can take away from you, and it makes you unstoppable anywhere in the world. #Events #Networking #Volunteering #TeamWork #Learning #CommunityEvents #SouthCarolina #ProfessionalGrowth

🥳 Another Year, Another Chance to Serve. Today, as I celebrate my birthday, I find myself reflecting on the life I’ve lived and the choices I’ve made. Coincidentally, it’s also International Volunteer Day—a day that feels deeply personal to me because volunteerism isn’t just something I do; it’s the essence of who I am. They say, "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others." That has been my guiding principle. Yet, as I slip past what many call the “age of youth,” I sometimes wonder if it’s time to change my ways. Should I focus more on myself? Should I slow down? But the answer always comes back to this: the spirit of a volunteer knows no age. It doesn’t fade with time—it grows deeper, stronger, and more meaningful. On this day, as the world celebrates the contributions of volunteers everywhere, I remember my own journey. My first act of service was small back in 2006—perhaps insignificant in the grand scheme of things—but it transformed me. It taught me that giving isn’t about grandeur; it’s about intention. "You make a living by what you get; you make a life by what you give." That’s the mantra I’ve carried in every initiative, every act of kindness, and every moment I’ve spent with communities striving for change. The coincidence of my birthday falling on International Volunteer Day feels like a reminder: this is my purpose. The work I do, the connections I make, and the hope I see in others’ eyes—this is the life I want to keep living. To everyone who has walked this path with me, whether as a fellow volunteer or someone who believed in the power of service—thank you. You’ve enriched my journey beyond measure 🙏 Hopeful for another year to leave the world a little better than I found it. "No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another." Let’s keep lifting, sharing, and building—together. #InternationalVolunteerDay #Reflections #BirthdayThoughts #Volunteer Picture: Shirvanshah Museum Restaurant, Baku, Azerbaijan

Here are 4 reasons why you should consider volunteering and how it can benefit your future career: 1. Gain experience: The training and experience you get from volunteering will help you develop your skills that you can transfer these over to a future job. You'll also be able to use volunteering as evidence of your skills in interviews. 2. Build your network: Volunteering is a great way to meet new people who may share opportunities or information beneficial to your job search or future career. 3. Demonstrate your passion: Employers want top candidates who really love what they do, volunteering in the field demonstrates you are willing to get relevant skills and experience you need. 4. What's the first thing that comes to mind when someone asks how you're doing? I often catch myself saying, “busy.” Between my day job and the work I do after hours – parenting, co-running Peacock Press, volunteering, learning French – my plate is rather full. However, I have come to understand that not all busyness is constructive. I share how I find the time for doing fulfilling work – both personally and professionally – in this article published on Apolitical: https://lnkd.in/gvqZ5Sfx
