Today we had a group of students from Utah Valley University tour our Mt. Nebo farm in Mona, UT. The students got to learn about farm operations and Seed to Seal process. They also visited our new Village Inn event center and learn about that side of the farm. We’re excited to have them visit our Global Headquarters office in the coming weeks.
It's fantastic to see education intersecting with real-world experiences! Providing students with insights into farm operations and the Seed to Seal process not only enriches their understanding but also fosters a deeper appreciation for the journey from seed to product. And exploring the new Village Inn event center adds another layer of insight into the multifaceted aspects of your farm. Looking forward to hearing about their visit to the Global Headquarters office – what a comprehensive learning experience!

Meet our LEAD Maryland Class XIII Fellow!
Today's spotlight is on Darryl Glotfelty. Darryl is co-owner of Meadow Mountain Hemp and Meadow Mountain Microgreens & Edible Flowers.
Q: In what ways do you see yourself fostering collaboration and innovation within your industry or community, especially in light of the new issues you've encountered?
A: "One of the main takeaways from my LEAD experience thus far is the importance of land preservation and use. Whether we are talking about the equestrian industry, solar and data centers, or management of our state forests, the way we preserve and utilize land can be unique and varied. One idea that was triggered by our three seminars was the possibility of collaboration with solar firms to introduce and research agrivoltaics with industrial fiber hemp. This would not only increase revenue generated per acre, but could also provide hundreds of acres of fiber hemp necessary to feed an industrial hemp processing plant. Ideally, 1500-2000 acres of fiber hemp per year would be grown to provide enough output to sustainably run a small/medium size hemp processing facility. Growing hemp on previously mined grounds could bolster land restoration efforts in Appalachia, while also providing an economically viable crop if proper infrastructure is in place for processing. Figuring out ways to concurrently promote the growth of a new crop, while also knowing processing capacity is limited, makes this a difficult task. I plan to continue to advocate for innovative ways to make this vision come to fruition."
Just released from American Forests: a special short documentary called "Year of the Cone." It follows our crew working in Oregon's Fremont-Winema National Forest, and their work to survey and monitor cone development.
Did You Know: There's a narrow 3-4 week window in which cones are ready to harvest, and thanks to their efforts, we currently have a specialized climbing crew down there that is collecting the thousands of cones that will one day become forests that cover former severe burn scars!
With your support, AF is working with partners on the ground to build up the national supply of seed:
🌱 We are bringing land managers, seed orchards, and contractors together to study seed shortages and coordinate to build networks of partners dedicated to growing seed supplies.
🌱 We are managing wild seed collection on forest landscapes across the nation.
🌱 We are growing and training an entirely new workforce of seed and cone collectors.
🌱 In urban areas, we are enlisting the help of our local communities to help build seed supplies.
🌱 We are also investing in innovative solutions to scale up our seed orchards – which can provide a stable source of seed for decades.

Brown Top millet is a fast growing warm season annual millet that can be harvested in under 2 months to produce heavy yields in optimal weather. With it being a shorter season maturity plant it can also reseed itself in around 60 days. That being said, Brown Top millet works great in a mix as well, filling in gaps where animals have grazed by dropping its seeds. It can be used as hay as well as in grazing situations.
