✨The 18th of December is a special day for us - International Migrants Day - celebrated across the world. 💡Throughout human history, migration has been a courageous expression of the individual’s will to overcome adversity and live a better life. ⚡Today, globalization has greatly increased the number of people who immigrate. Mixed with elements of emergency and complexity, the challenges and difficulties of international migration require enhanced cooperation and collective action among countries and regions. 🎯YMCA's top priority is to advocate for refugees, migrants and asylum seekers worldwide, through services, upskilling programs, community-integration initiatives and digitalisation programs for all: https://lnkd.in/dPrKxSqj

Celebrating International Migrant Day Today, on International Migrant Day, we honor the resilience, courage, and contributions of migrants across the globe. Migration is more than the movement of people; it is the exchange of cultures, ideas, and dreams that shape the world we live in. Goge Africa we celebrate diversity and the boundless potential that migration brings to communities and nations. Migrants play a vital role in driving innovation, fostering cultural exchange, and building bridges across continents. Their stories of perseverance inspire us to create a more inclusive and compassionate world. As we reflect on this day, let us recognize the challenges migrants face—discrimination, displacement, and barriers to opportunities—and commit to promoting safe, dignified, and inclusive migration for all. Together, we can make the world a place where everyone feels at home, no matter where they come from or where they are headed. On December 4, 2000, the UN General Assembly recognized the growing number of migrants worldwide by declaring December 18 as International Migrants Day. Migration is a complex global issue fueled by the pursuit of dignity, safety, and peace. Leaving one's home is often a drastic decision that can lead to perilous journeys. Through UNESCO's International Coalition of Inclusive and Sustainable Cities, efforts are made to foster welcoming environments for migrants locally. Additionally, UNESCO enhances journalists' abilities to counter negative portrayals of migrants and collaborates with UN partners to develop a global compact aimed at ensuring safer and more orderly migration. #InternationalMigrantsDay #MigrantsDay #IAmAMigrant #Migration #MigrantRights #RefugeesWelcome #HumanRights #DignityInMigration #InclusiveCities #UnderstandTheJourney #HistoricalEvents #GKUpdates #CurrentAffairs #UPSC2024 #CompetitiveExams #GeneralKnowledge #DailyNews #UPSCInsights #GKForExams

On International Migrants Day, we recognize the hundreds of millions of migrants living outside their home countries, whose resilience and contributions enrich communities worldwide. As we reflect on the challenges and opportunities migration presents, it is imperative for countries to expand lawful pathways, protect vulnerable migrants, promote inclusion, and advance policies that ensure safe, orderly, and humane migration. The United States remains committed to leading these efforts globally, working alongside international partners to uphold the dignity and rights of migrants everywhere. Together, we can build a world where migration is not only safer but also an avenue for shared prosperity. https://lnkd.in/ewHE7Ten

This was one of the best panels I listened at Folkemødet .Which was focused on migration and Refugees.Which addressed on the complexities of migration, on a crucial standpoint by taking a stance to recognize the danger of a single story,. Migrants are often labeled as mere economic migrants or refugees without considering the multifaceted nature of their journeys. However, migration is not a problem, but a fundamental human instinct and desire for a better life and better opportunities. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's TED Talk, "The Danger of a Single Story," highlights the importance of sharing diverse narratives. By focusing solely on the negative aspects of migration, we risk creating stereotypes and distorting realities. It's essential to acknowledge the various motivations and experiences of migrants, including those who make something out of their new lives. Let's strive to create a more inclusive narrative that recognizes the agency and resilience of migrants. By doing so, we can foster empathy, understanding, and a more compassionate society. #MigrationIsAHumanInstinct #TheDangerOfASingleStory #InclusiveNarrativesMatter TARIBA TRAORE

To mark International Migrants Day on December 18, the European Data News Hub (EDNH) is releasing an interactive guide available in 9 languages answering the key questions on migration in Europe. Six European press agencies worked closely to collect information on key migration metrics: • How many people are trying to enter the EU? • What do we mean by terms like refugee, asylum seeker and migrant? • What are the main migrant routes into Europe? • How has the EU responded to the biggest refugee crisis since 1945? • What are the attitudes of EU citizens in each of the 27 member states to irregular migration. 👉 Read the full interactive guide: https://lnkd.in/eXDnRQiN

New publication! Me and Johan Ekstedt explore how come the number of resettled refugees to EU+ countries have increased so much since 2015, in a period when migration policies and border restrictions have become so much harsher. We unpack the growing role of European Agency for Asylum which, together with select member stage agencies, have engaged in organizational capacity-building and developed new tools of migration management, beneath the political turmoil. This is done for the purpose of establishing what is seen as an orderly governing of migration: one where wanted refugees are selected by teams of officials from camps afar, rather than seek asylum at the borders of Europe.

🌍 December 18 marks International Migrants Day. 🌍 Between 2020 and 2024, over 281 million people migrated internationally. Among them, 31.6 million found themselves in refugee or refugee-like situations, while 72.1 million remain internally displaced due to conflict, violence, and instability. (Source: UN Migration; UNHCR) Since the earliest times, humanity has been on the move, seeking for opportunities or fleeing from a diversity of threats. Yet, despite this long history, there remains no holistic definition of migration as a human right. While multilateral organizations broadly agree that migration involves individuals living outside their country or habitual residence—whether nationally or internationally, voluntarily or not—the motivations for migration are often inconsistently categorized. This leads to fragmented interpretations, limited legal protections, and uneven access to basic rights for migrants, refugees, asylum seekers, stateless persons, and internally displaced people. To address these challenges, the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience (ICSC), in collaboration with its Migration Museums Network (MMN) and partner-civil society organizations (CSOs) working alongside displaced communities globally, launched the initiative: "Embracing All Journeys: Expanding Understandings of Migration Together" This initiative critically examines the diverse experiences of human movement and the multitude of drivers that inform migration. Together, we are: 🤝 Co-creating a more inclusive and adaptable understanding of migration as human movement, recognizing its complexities and diversity. 🚶Affirming human mobility as a universal right, while advocating for basic guarantees and protections for all those who move. As we mark International Migrants Day, we honor the courage, resilience, and contributions of migrants worldwide. By embracing all journeys, we strive to build a more inclusive future that respects and upholds the rights of all people on the move. #MigrationMatters #DiverseHumanJourneys #RefugeesIncluded #HumanRights #InternationalMigrantsDay
