COGNITIVE DISSONANCE Children experiencing parental alienating behaviours will often show love or affection for the targeted parent while also expressing negative emotions or criticisms about them. Cognitive dissonance refers to the discomfort or tension that arises when an individual holds conflicting thoughts, beliefs or feelings. In the context of parental alienation, a child's experience of cognitive dissonance occurs when they have conflicting emotions towards the targeted parent, creating a sense of conflict and confusion as their thoughts and feelings collide. Intervention is crucial in cases of alienation, as it helps address conflicts early, preventing long-term emotional distress. Early action aims to promote a healthier parent-child relationship and provide a stable environment for the child's emotional development. Breaking the cycle of alienation ensures the child can maintain positive connections with both parents, promoting overall well-being. SPD can affect one or multiple senses like touch, sight, or movement. While some over-respond to sensations, finding things like clothing or noise unbearable, others under-respond, showing little reaction even to extreme heat or pain. Sensory Processing Disorder is often diagnosed in children, but adults who go untreated can still experience significant symptoms and struggle with interpreting sensory information accurately and appropriately.
