🌟 𝗠𝘆 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗱𝗜𝗻 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗱 A few weeks ago, I felt stuck, trying to navigate professional growth independently with no clear direction. I knew I needed more than just connections; I needed a community that could inspire, challenge, and teach me. I found the  𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗙𝗘𝗦𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗞𝗘𝗗𝗜𝗡 𝗚𝗥𝗢𝗪𝗧𝗛 𝗦𝗤𝗨𝗔𝗗 (𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁𝘀𝗔𝗽𝗽 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆) in August, and it’s been a game-changer ever since. Through this group, I’ve connected with incredible people, each with unique insights. The support, shared experiences, and advice I’ve received have been nothing short of transformational. Whether through thought-provoking conversations or the wealth of shared strategies, I've learned more than I ever thought possible. Before joining, I often felt like I was skimming the surface of my potential. Now, I’m more confident, informed, and connected than ever. A huge thank you to Akakan Umoh and Julian Onyekwere for your exceptional leadership in creating this supportive community that has helped me and so many others grow. As each week comes to a close, I’ve been making a concerted effort to set personal goals and reflect on my achievements, no matter how small they may seem. Within my role as a Customer Care Team Leader at Arjo, our One Team approach has provided a fantastic framework for this. Sharing our victories not only helps us recognise progress but also inspires continuous improvement. This week, I’m excited to celebrate three significant wins on my mind: 1️⃣ Empowering New Advisors: I’m thrilled to see my new advisors already starting to thrive. By offering a tailored approach to each individual, considering their unique learning styles, pace, and the specific challenges they face, I've seen generally great progress so far. Today, we had a collective learning session with four of them, providing a supportive environment to share knowledge and address additional queries about some of our resources. The engagement was great to see, and it's incredibly rewarding for me to witness their growth and collaboration. 2️⃣ Overcoming Networking Challenges: Networking, on a personal level, has always been a bit of a personal blocker for me. Professionally, I can do that, easy. Typically, I’ve stuck to the comfort zone of sending emails and responding without delving deeper into conversations. This week, I stepped out of that comfort zone a little bit. I initiated a couple of small phone calls and face-to-face conversations and extended chats beyond the usual problem-solution exchanges, engaging on a more personal level. These dialogues, although short, marked a significant shift in my communication style, hopefully fostering stronger connections and a deeper sense of engagement. 3️⃣ Prioritising Personal Health: Often overlooked, but equally important, I made it to the gym twice this week. I know what you’re all thinking… Tom doesn’t need to work out. But trust me, the dad bod tells a different story! Managing to squeeze in two workouts amidst a busy schedule is something I’m truly proud of, and I’m already setting a goal for three next week. Reflecting on these wins has been incredibly motivating. It’s a reminder that progress is not only about big milestones but also about acknowledging and celebrating the small steps forward. Celebrating 20 years is a significant milestone, at least we think so 😊. 🌟 As the Co-Founder of Matchr, I firmly believe that culture starts with leadership. It's not just about leading by example; you are the example. Your actions, or lack thereof, shape the culture of your organization. In a previous company, we neglected to provide regular updates or share the true state of affairs. Everything seemed fine until it wasn't. I'll never forget the day we had to let go of several employees without warning. It was like ambushing our own team, and we lost their trust and sense of safety in an instant. When Maarten van der Kwaak and I started Matchr, we made a pact: transparency would be non-negotiable. No matter how tough the situation, we committed to open and honest communication. Transparency is one of our core values, and it's something I naturally embody. I share openly both on LinkedIn and internally about what's really going on. This openness has fostered a culture where others feel comfortable sharing about their personal lives as well.
