His wealthy parents, who raised him to be a devout Christian, died in an epidemic. Nicholas used his whole inheritance to assist the needy, the sick, and the suffering. Take One Action Today To Build Your #Resiliency!      Tips For Building Resiliency and Celebrating St. Nicholas Day: We could all stand to be a little more like St. Nicholas.  Here is a boy, whose world dramatically changed when his parents died.  He could have let this beat him down. He could have drowned in self-pity.  Instead, he relied on his faith and did whatever he could to help those who were even less fortunate then himself.  Let’s get good at turning life around and focusing on what we have, and less on what we have lost or don’t have. Today, we have the image of Santa Clause and we give gifts to the people we know and love.  But what about our giving to those less fortunate then ourselves? We are donating less each year. The average annual amount per donor is less than $500 with the median amount under $150. With the economy the way that it is, the demand within most charities has increased while their donations have decreased.  Make a difference in the lives of someone less fortunate than you.  It doesn’t take a lot to have a huge impact. In 1998, my youngest son was due to arrive on Christmas Day.  We decided that boy or girl, their name would honour St. Nicholas as he was our blessed gift.  Nickolas arrived safely on December 22. Our Meeting with In Sue's Name Today, we had the incredible honor of meeting David Alan Taylor, the inspiring founder of In Sue's Name - a charity that holds a special place in our hearts. This charity was established by David and his family in loving memory of Sue, a remarkable woman who tragically lost her battle with a brain tumour in 2011 at the young age of 42, leaving behind two beautiful children. But today, we're not just here to share Sue's story. We want to introduce you all to something amazing that we've been working on - ⁠Influential Stars✨ with experiences In partnership with ⁠Virgin Experience Days. Our project is set to launch at the end of October 2023, and we couldn't be more excited! 🚀 Our mission is simple: to raise awareness about brain tumours and fundraise for brain tumour charities. But that's not all - we are committed to supporting charities across the entire UK! 🇬🇧 Now, here's where we need your help! David has reached out to all of you, our incredible community, to see if anyone would be interested in volunteering for this project. We need passionate individuals who can lend their expertise in marketing, PR, project management, and so much more. Let's step into STEPtember

We all know what Movember is and what it represents. It tends to usually be attributable to a moustache. It can also be about being active and exercise and promoting mens health. Unfortunately, unless I want a divorce, I am unlikely to go down the moustache route so I am doing what I know best and that is going for a run.   There are some quite scary stats surrounding Movember in terms of Cancer and also premature death. I won't recite the stats as they are readily available via the Movember web site. https://lnkd.in/ekUDAhF8    So, I will be doing the Great South Run this weekend (10 miles) and then for the month of November, I will run a minimum of 5k each day. “5k a day”. I have various races in November so my legs may be a bit battered by the end of the month and then a race on 1st December, so not sure how that will go!!! That will total a minimum of 150km in a month and actually probably be closer to 200k. Some will be fast and some definitely will be slow. Some will be split over a couple of runs where I have specific training sessions to a certain duration and some runs will be of a much greater distance.   I want to promote being active and staying healthy for the month (although my body may not be healthy at the end!!). During 2024 so far, I have lost 29 pounds in weight, partly spurred on from my 16 year old who has become an exceptionally fast runner (5k in under 18 minutes) and has been putting me to shame so I need to start catching him back up again but also, at 51 (unfortunately nearly 52), it is so much harder to be active - and the body recover. I hear more often of people I know or have known that have become ill, or even worse so it is so important to make sure we are doing the best we can for ourselves and our families.   Anyone following me on Strava will be able to check my progress but I will update my progress so you can see that I am on target for the month.   I have a link below where if you are able to donate a few pennies, it just makes things a little easier. It all goes to the Movember fundraising and the charity connected.   https://lnkd.in/eddwaJux 

Watch this very important rescue movie and learn about the real world of dog rescues. Dan could volunteer at an animal shelter or a rescue, but his heart is out here, with the animals that are alone and afraid. The animals here depend on Dan's big heart, what money he has, and his energy. Who takes care of Dan? Who rescues the rescuer? He doesn't ask for anything for himself. I know that if he won the lottery tomorrow, every last dollar would go to dogs and people in need. True charity is selfless. Dan embodies that statement. The need is endless. Dan lives in that world. No one person can fix things. But, if each person does what they can, then things can get a little better for animals. I get so angry. I wish I could tell people "Stop dumping your dogs!" "Get your pets spayed and neutered!" "Build better shelters and open more sanctuaries!" If there were no more dogs dumped in quarries and fields, that would mend Dan's heart. Until then, I hope that more people will do what they can. I hope Dan gets a new van, more dog food, and his own basic needs met. What can I do to help heroes like Dan? It doesn't feel like much at all. It feels like one drop of water when what is needed is a storm. It's overwhelming and keeps me up at night sometimes. The heroes need help. Dan needs help.
