Audience Research: Too slow? ...Or just not valued? Both, actually. So what is the future for research? Data analytics can provide us with amazing behavioural insights and drive our tactical marketing decisions but it cannot help us when we are innovating or evolving new products and propositions. This is where talking to the audience is critical. This where you can rapidly ascertain what truly resonates with your audience. It is where you can co-create with your most important stakeholder and unearth unexpected, transformational insights. Strong, sustainable brand promises are built on such understandings. With data and analytics available at our fingertips, the idea of spending time (and quite a lot of money) doing primary research seems like a luxury. Moreover, a lot of younger data-driven marketeers and agencies may never have experienced primary research and the value it can create. It's interesting to see the emergence of 'Emotion AI' and 'Neuro-Tech' tech in the marketplace. This is a bolt-on technology to existing methodologies tracking facial expression and interpreting responses. Looks cool, but does it change the game? This intersection between speed, actionable insight and data is where the future lies for research. This is the purpose behind 'Soothful', where the tried and tested approaches of high-quality research are seamlessly blended with the superpowers of AI dissolving the distinctions between data and insight. The dividing line between "Qual" (discursive interviewing) and "Quant" (structured questionnaires and data output) is eradicated. Large sample sizes are no longer an issue.
