An incredible group of practitioners that support young people with emerging mental health worries, by equipping them with the tools they need, and by helping their parents to understand and support their child’s mental health. #accoras #younique #changinglives #changinglivesforthebetter
#Accoras is proud to deliver the You.nique program across South East Queensland, working with young people. This quote is in reference to a group of siblings who commenced in the program about a year ago, for 9 months. During that time, the Accoras team saw significant improvement in their ability to self-regulate, and they were able to better communicate emotions and needs. Because we worked from a strength-based #ClientCentred approach, all the siblings felt that they were equally treated, and their mum consistently gave our team positive feedback. It was, like many others, a very successful intervention, and is another rewarding outcome where young people can see a brighter future - which is what we all want. #communityservices

Unlock the Future of Inclusive and Accessible Assessments at EATP 2024! For all who are passionate about creating inclusive and accessible assessment experiences? The heart of valid and reliable judgements of skills and capabilities!! You won't want to miss the European Innovations in Testing Conference, the premier event for assessment professionals dedicated to advancing fairness and inclusivity in testing. "The key challenge is that results for many tests and exams, especially those aimed at children and young adults, correlate strongly with parental wealth or privilege. Part of this is down to societal issues, but there is a real challenge to the testing community to ensure that tests and exams are genuinely inclusive. Fair tests and exams need to allow those with disabilities and those from marginalized communities to showcase their skills." John Kleeman, EVP, Learnosity and Questionmark The Solution: We need to start exploring how we can balance security and inclusivity and how to implement security measures that do not disproportionately impact minority groups. We can design our assessment experiences with inclusivity and accessibility in mind from the beginning. As an industry, we can do better! Why It's Important: Creating inclusive and accessible assessments is crucial for ensuring that all individuals have an equal opportunity to demonstrate their abilities. "One thing that encourages me is that the testing community is for the most part very well-intentioned. People often go into assessment to make a difference and to try to build a better world. And so, there is a lot of goodwill to improve how we deal with accessibility and other inclusivity issues". John Kleeman. I couldn't agree more with that sentiment. By attending EATP, you'll gain valuable knowledge and tools to: Enhance the validity and fairness of your assessments. Promote diversity and inclusion within your organization Explore new ways of connecting learning and assessment to encourage engagement and progression I will be presenting some feedback on how we are working with a UK region to create a learning and assessment digital ecosystem to encourage lifelong learning for all. An education and training environment that supports people, places and prosperity opportunity for the many, whatever age or background. Don't miss this opportunity to connect with the brightest minds in the field and contribute to shaping the future of assessment. Register now and be part of the movement towards more inclusive and equitable testing practices! https://lnkd.in/gb9r_M7v Let's make assessments fair for everyone. Passionate about changing the face of Social Care , Promoting the support , professionalisation, respect and recognition of the Social Care Workforce
I am pleased to see the Department of Health and Social Care and Skills for Care's announcement yesterday regarding funding and training for aspiring Care professionals. This is a fantastic step towards recognising the crucial role Social Care plays and empowering its workforce. It aligns perfectly with the Voluntary Care Professional Register (VCPR) ongoing efforts to elevate the profession and establish it as a viable alternative to other Health and Social Care paths. We believe this is just one piece of the puzzle. Seamless integration and collaboration between Health and Social Care requires a complete "clockwork mechanism", and adequate funding for Care provision remains a critical cog. Many Providers are already struggling in the current climate, and without proper support, their ability to continue providing essential services is at risk. Furthermore, many providers already possess the infrastructure to deliver aspects of the mentioned training and apprenticeships. To truly elevate Social Care to the respected Profession it deserves, in addition to this new initiative, the DHSC must: 1. Focus on integration between Health and Social Care 2. Secure adequate funding to meet the care standards required 3. Join us on our journey to mandatory registration. We stand ready to collaborate further on this pivotal step towards recognizing the Social Care sector's immense value. Open dialogue and joint efforts will be key to unlocking its full potential. Medical Doctor | Msc Student Public Health & Preventive Medicine | Research Assistant Detection & Treatment of Environmental Pollutants and Microorganisms
In the past week, I was opportuned to attend an interactive session tutored by Dr Richard Fitton , a GP at Guy's Hospital London and Dr Mohammad Al Ubaydi, as an integral part of the HLLP internship by The Academy of Public Health (The APH) ⚕️ West African Institute of Public Health on Health Literacy and Quality. Here is a summary of some important points 👇 ❓What is Health Literacy? Health literacy is the ability to understand and use health information to make informed decisions about our well-being. It's essential because it gives one a better understanding of his/her health condition. 🤔Why is it important? ⏩ Improvement in Health Outcomes: Informed individuals are more likely to follow treatment plans and engage in preventive care. ⏩ Reduction in Healthcare Costs: Preventive care and proper management of chronic conditions can decrease unnecessary hospital visits. ⏩ Promotion of Equity: Enhancing health literacy can help reduce health disparities among different populations. ⏳How can we improve it as Clinicians ? ⏩ Communication in a language the patient best understands. ⏩ Simplify Communication: Use clear, simple language in all health-related materials and avoid medical jargons. ⏩ Educational Programs: Implement community-based health education initiatives. ⏩ Use of Technology: Utilize digital tools and apps to provide accessible health information. You can as well connect and reach out for more insights 😊 #HealthAdvicates #HealthLiteracy #PublicHealth #HealthEducation #CommunityHealth #Healthcare #YPPH24 #HLLP24 #UHC #WAIPH

Meet Kim Nguyen! In this week's blog, our Post-Bacc Health alumna shares how the program helped her as a career changer. "I wanted extra guidance from advisers who had an extensive amount of knowledge about applying to allied health graduate schools. This was my priority when deciding to apply to the program. I also appreciated how easy it was to enroll in the classes I needed due to having priority enrollment." International Women’s Day – Project Hug, Random Acts of Kindness ❤️ We all have days when we struggle, or we spot someone else who is having a hard time. Project Hug is reaching out to people through these little pocket hugs and worry worms to let you know you’re not alone. Project Hug started in the Defence Medical Academy in Summer 2023 and expanded to DMS HQ in Feb 2024 with nearly 2000 hugs having found a new home amongst staff and students. The feedback to these little acts of kindness has been overwhelmingly positive, “It sits on my desk as a gentle reminder to be kind to myself” – Anonymous Annmarie Lloyd, one of the Project Hug founders, said: “Anyone can succeed a little perseverance and support. And it’s the support that encourages and motivates you to realise your potential. Who knew that a little bit of wool would have such a profound effect on people, from picking them when they are low through to starting an awkward conversation about mental health” Bridget Vipond-Brookes, Project Hug Team Member adds: “I feel so proud of the impact Project Hug has had. I’m new to the initiative and already had the most incredibly moving feedback that further inspires me to promote the project and come up with new crochet hug ideas. I feel very privileged to be a part of this team.” Bridget describes how she demonstrates inclusive behaviour at work, sharing knowledge, being socially inclusive and considering others ideas and concerns, adding “and of course, baking cakes for everyone never hurts”. To anyone who is unsure about getting involved with this or their own initiative to #inspireinclusion, Annmarie says “Team work, start small, but with perseverance and determination you can achieve great things” #DMS #Inspireinclusion Strategic Command

From Innovation to Impact: Driving Change in NTD Control Through Integrated Training Solutions!" 🌟🔍 Thrilled to share insights from our recent NNN workshop session alongside my colleagues, Geoff Warne and Roos Geutjes. Here's a brief summary of the enriching discussions that emerged during our workshop, which are also captured in our latest publication: 🔍 Need for Integrated Approaches: Integration is paramount in tackling NTDs effectively. From training to policy implementation, a cohesive approach is crucial for success. 💡 Innovations in Capacity Building: Cutting-edge innovations like digital technology and blended learning are revolutionizing capacity strengthening efforts. Exciting examples include the Amref electronic community health platform in Kenya and the Buruli Ulcer Laboratory Network in Cameroon. 🚀 Overcoming Challenges: While progress is evident, challenges persist, such as funding constraints, connectivity issues in remote areas, and program fragmentation. Addressing these hurdles is essential for sustained impact. 🌐 Global Collaboration: The importance of global collaboration cannot be overstated. Initiatives like the OpenWHO digital hub and Lift Leprosy Learning project are paving the way for shared learning and resource accessibility. 📈 Measuring Effectiveness: Effective training requires planning, contextualization, and robust evaluation mechanisms. The Kirkpatrick model offers a structured framework for assessing impact across various domains. 🌱 Future Directions: Moving forward, advocacy, donor alignment, and evidence-building are paramount. Initiatives like participatory research and operational studies will be instrumental in shaping future strategies. 📄🖱Find the full article here ➡️ Experience and evidence building on effective innovative integrated capacity strengthening - Results from the NNN Leprosy Disease Specific Working Group session 21st September 2023. Today is a day of acknowledgement, reflection, and a commitment to making a meaningful difference. September 30, 2021, marked the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, which was proposed by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission as one of its 94 calls to action. This day honours the survivors of the residential school system, their families, and communities. As the leading association of clinical counsellors in British Columbia, we have a responsibility to rise to the calls to action within the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Report. How we are taking action: - Organising workshops for clinical counsellors and allied health professionals to enhance their ability to provide cultural safety for Indigenous Peoples. Courses include Mobilizing Cultural Safety and Humility in Professional Practice taught by Len Pierre, Educator and Indigenous Cultural Safety Coordinator and Working with Cultural Diversity in the Therapeutic Setting taught by Dr. Myrna Lashley, McGill University - Engaging with the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) to increase the number of Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCCs) providing services to FNHA as there is a lack of available providers. - Creating a standard on Indigenous Cultural Safety, Cultural Humility & Anti-Racism Standard. - Instituting the Joan Campbell Award since 2021 to increase Indigenous and other under-represented groups amongst our membership. - BCACC’s new Entry to Practice Competency Profile for RCCs in British Columbia includes content that has an Indigenous-specific focus. - BCACC is continuing this work to look at how its other policies may be revised to integrate and consider an Indigenous-specific context. We respectfully acknowledge that this is just the beginning and there is a lot of work to be done. Please note that our office will be closed today.
