As I reflect 💡on Day 1 of the #SIE #ImpactProfit conference, I’m inspired by the commitments and lessons on collaboration between entertainment and impact, especially in this post-Participant world. Here are some key reflections: - Collaborative Expertise 🤝: It's clear that the magic happens when filmmakers, artists, social impact strategists, and distribution experts come together. Each brings unique insights and skills, allowing us to create more impactful projects while respecting each other's expertise. - Early Integration of Social Impact ☀️: Panels emphasized prioritizing integrating social impact considerations from the very beginning of film and media projects. This feature documentary won Current Resident a Clio, but honestly, as rad as The Clios are I don’t really care all that much (no shade). What’s more important is that it sold an industry on a story of humble beginnings, a vision for the future, and what’s possible—even if, or rather, especially if, you’re the underdog. Horizon Focus is a special project, not just for me, but for everyone involved, from our client, Vireo health to the crew who brought it to life. It was a race against time—four months from start to finish to deliver a project that should’ve taken six+ —but the result was more than worth it. I recently had the honour of joining a webinar hosted by Blue Ventures on using video storytelling to supercharge conservation impact. Having worked in this space, I feel so inspired when I see the great impact conservation efforts have not only on nature but on people as well. There are so many opportunities for #storytelling. My key takeaways from the webinar were: ✅ Put the mic in the hands of the community. Let them tell their own stories. And if you can, work with local filmmakers. ✅ Always find out how the community wants to be portrayed and showcase them as such. ✅ When telling the story of an organisation, look for figure-heads from within the communities where they work. ✅ Seek out quieter voices. They will always have something more to add to the story. #AlwaysLearning #ScienceCommunication #ConservationCommunication
