PSA for leaders of employees with school aged children. Next week is officially the start of the Holiday Season here in the U.S. There are 27 business days from next Monday, Nov 25th through January 3rd. Do you know how many days my kids are in school? 14. Yup just 14 days (51%). #WorkingParents are juggling work while caregiving. Paying 💰💰💰for extra camps & paid caregivers to cover the days out of school all while keeping #familytraditions and #holidaymagic alive. #Managers, please 🙏 lead with grace, empathy and above all flexibility. #workingparents WILL get it done at work and at home but patience is key! #workingparents #workingmoms #affordablechildcare #flexibility #careoutloud #parentoutloud
Don't forget to add in the company Holiday parties and the department parties. Never during working hours. So then the single parents who already scrambled to find care during the day, now have to find care at night too. Not seeing their children for an entire day (or 2), already wracked with parental guilt, now are spending even more money for care, but are also labeled "not a team player" for either declining the party or leaving early. It's a lovely thought to have these events, but please understand and forgive those who can't commit to more time away!
Same! There was a discussion on my team of (mostly) non-caregivers recently about PTO- how it's so generous, it's hard to use it up. Fact: It's a generous policy. Also fact: I bank 8-10 days of PTO to use during this end of year time period as my kids have only have 15 days of school from Nov 25-Jan 2. I'm stingy with my PTO throughout the year so I have enough to make it through the end of the year. It's a scramble in every single way. Not to mention adding in out of state travel to both holidays. Oh, and concerts, parties, conferences... It's hustle season. 😅
I had not done the math yet. I think I'm having heart palpitations thinking about it. This reminder is so important. The juggle is always real, but it's so much harder in the next 5-6 weeks.
And starting today, throw in 7 half days. 🤬🤬🤬
THIS! I found it wayyy easier when my son was in daycare vs school. The amount of days off is so hard to manage sometimes 🤯
Thank you for this Mary Beth Ferrante, PCC! I'll add that in those short 14 days there will be class parties, pajama days, readathons, and probably at least one (but likely two) days for early release.
I was just going to say “I was JUST on a call with someone who said this” and then I realized 😂
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! 🎶

1moHere in NJ, "No School November" began at the beginning of the month. 5 days off for the elections/NJEA Conference, 1 for Veteran's Day, and 2 for Thanksgiving. Then we have a full week of half days in December for parent/teacher conferences followed by a weeklong winter break 🫠
