This day marked an alarming milestone. Basically, imagine that all the resources in the world were your bank account, and by May 3rd you had already used all the money you are going to earn in the entire year. Wouldn't that worry you? This excessive consumption drives critical issues: deforestation, biodiversity loss, water shortages, soil erosion, air pollution, and intensifying climate impacts like droughts, floods, and wildfires. Europe faces a unique challenge, with projected temperature rises at twice the global average, exacerbating these environmental stresses. We must act decisively and rethink our consumption patterns to fulfill our needs on the basis of well-being and in ways that protect and restore healthy ecosystems, and limit global warming to 1.5 degrees.
