I am not normally interested in scolarly articles but a term used by a WorkSafe connection got my attention so I investigated it. The term was “High Reliability Organisations (HROs). They are known for their exceptional performance and safety records. No wonder WorkSafe like the term, I wonder if they have thought about doing surveys to see how many NZ companies past the test? A critical principal that underpins HROs success is active engagement across all levels of an organisation, which in turn includes respecting workers expertise and inputs. I have attached some information about HROs. Its simplified from scholarly language as much as possible so its messages do not get lost in translation. This is done in keeping with HRO principle number 3.

🌟 Almost a month of training at the European School of Risks by Jennet Arshimova has passed, where 30 specialists from different fields have gathered with a single goal - to make the working environment at Ukrainian enterprises safer. 🎓 🛡️ The goal is to achieve just one percent of safety, as described in the famous book One Percent Safer. 🚀 Our students have already started working on their leadership projects with Jennet Arshimova and are mastering the nuances of a systematic approach to building an occupational safety system together with Dr. Tsopa, MBA Vitaliy and Serhii Ross. Here are some of the goals our students voiced at the beginning of the training: 1. "To work more effectively on creating proper conditions for the quality reintegration of Defenders into society, particularly in providing them access to education and adaptation." 2. "Implementing new safety methods will help make the service (work) conditions safe for the organization's personnel." 3. "I see my contribution in establishing a truly reliable occupational safety service and in ensuring that every employee has quality and necessarily safe working conditions for their life and health." 4. "To implement the 'Leadership' project in workshops and structural units of the enterprise. To adopt the best risk assessment and management practices in wartime conditions. To improve the process of mental health support for employees. By completing this training course, I will be able to enhance the organization of work processes for people with disabilities, helping them adapt to new working conditions and new jobs." 5. "I developed risk maps for workplaces, and I want to improve them." 6. "Implementing a risk-oriented approach to organizing occupational safety at the enterprise." 7. "To create a proactive management system, not a reactive one." We will be sharing news about the changes our students will implement at their enterprises. Janice's Point of View - Sharing the Journey to OSH Professional Designation I was again invited by the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITCILO), to share my journey to the achievement of the designation of Certified Safety Professional (CSP), with BCSP. As a graduate of the University of Turin/International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITCILO), class of 2016/2017, Master in Occupational Safety and Health; when the (ITCILO) Coordinators of the Social Protection, Governance and Tripartism Programme contacted me with the proposal to share my experience, I was happy and willing to participate, again. This time my presentation was to the class of 2023/2024, studying for their Master in Occupational Safety and Health in Turin, Italy. It was a good experience sharing my journey with a captive audience. From the questions that were asked, the students are seeking not only to attain their Master in OSH, and the professional designation of Certified Safety Professional (CSP); but also to make an impact in the field of OSH at their places of work and in their countries. From my point of view, sharing ones' journey to an achievement should serve as a motivation to others. A motivation to those who may be struggling with thoughts of abandoning a goal they are now pursuing, or have been pursuing for years, but have not yet achieved. The journey to the achievement of a goal is often times layered with challenges, but if one keeps focus, the goal can be achieved. For those who have achieved, or overcome a setback, I encourage you to share your journey with others. Your story may just be the inspiration that someone is waiting to hear to continue his/her journey to achievement. Janice Green, CSP ICOH, National Secretary for Jamaica

DECISION MAKING IN A CRISIS Just completed running an intensive, three-days, of a one day training program, for over 50 staff members from Aġenzija Sapport in Malta. These interactive sessions were designed to equip their team with a trusted decision-making model that can be adapted to almost any scenario, reinforcing its versatility and relevance to a wide range of complex situations. Throughout the training, each participant applied the model to diverse, realistic scenarios, demonstrating how it could be used to navigate challenging situations. These scenarios included: 🔸 Engaging with vulnerable individuals after entering private addresses 🔸 Deploying personnel safely and effectively to foreign countries 🔸 Addressing sensitive domestic violence allegations involving an employee 🔸 Responding to public demonstrations occurring near the workplace 🔸 Handling difficult conversations that could strain relationships The training underscored the importance of structured decision-making skills, emphasizing the process of gathering and evaluating pertinent information, conducting thorough risk assessments, and formulating strategies backed by clear, rationale-based decisions. Staff members practiced documenting their decisions and discussing them with peers, gaining valuable insights and building confidence. 💪 A huge well-done to all participants for their active engagement and for successfully applying the decision-making model to these challenging scenarios! 👏 #decisionmaking #crisismanagement #communicationskills
