Is your recruitment process putting people off replying? We've noticed more and more companies adverts saying that pre-offer references from current employers are part of their recruitment process, so we did a poll to see if that would put people off applying. A staggering 76% said that it would! Yes, certain industries need to get references from a current employer pre-offer, but that's actually quite rare. So, when you're putting together your recruitment process consider if it's really necessary to take references PRIOR to offer, if you could take them from previous employers and wait for the current employer or if you could make all offers conditional on satisfactory references instead. Unpopular opinion; Recruitment takes time and a bit of effort. And, yes, sometimes it costs money. It can be done quickly, it can be done with a minimum of effort, and it can be done cheaply. But over 20 years experience teaches me that if it's done that way, it's probably not being done well. So, a suggestion to employers: The next time you're looking to recruit, think about spending more time on the recruitment process so that you can spend less time on recruitment. #recruitmentredefined
