Forbes cited a recent crisis communication survey of business leaders that found, “... only 49% of surveyed U.S. companies have a formal crisis communication plan. We can avoid common pitfalls of crisis communication by heeding the sage advice of professionals like Staci Slaughter, who spent decades overseeing strategic communications and crisis management for the San Francisco Giants and two mayors. I love the insights she shared during a recent PowerSpeaking Live!: 🔹 Leaders whose impulse is to bury their heads in the sand need to understand that avoiding communication is rarely a good thing to do. 🔹 Leaders should bring their communications people in from the start; and throughout the crisis, the two should be “joined at the hip” to make the best decisions. 🔹 Being proactive and building credibility with stakeholders—especially the media—long before a crisis hits can buy you time, trust, and the benefit of the doubt. Please share any experiences you’ve had, good or bad, in coordinating crisis communication. #crisiscommunication #leadershipcommunication #communicationplan
