Lately, I've been going out with my camera, asking strangers if I can take their picture. I've observed something fascinating through this experience. These strangers, despite not knowing me at all, are surprisingly open. Their genuine responses to my questions have really struck me. But why am I telling you this? How does it relate to your business as a business owner? It's all about being real. Many business owners, like myself, wear masks. Over time, we accumulate various layers of identity that don't always reflect our true selves, and often, we aren't even aware of them. Do you ever allow yourself a moment of self reflection? And do you ever find yourself doing that whilst doing something else? I find my moments of self reflection and evaluating my own progress happen when occupied with another task. Like when I’m driving or in the gym. I have these little epiphanies that help me course correct and stay focused. The same thing happens when I’m working with a client. I’m super focused on delivering the best images but at the same time I’m thinking ahead, coming up with ideas in the moment, I’m watching the clock, the light, I’m keeping the vibe light and fun, I’m wondering if there’s another angle, another location, another composition.. My brain has always been ‘rapid’ like that. When I work I shoot quickly. It’s just how it is for me. More times than I can count we’ve allocated a whole day for a shoot and I’m done two hours in and the client is happily astonished. Maybe you’ll be the next client to find that out. I’m just in the zone and the thing is, I’m writing all this down here like it’s important but it’s just normal for me to be that way.
