We've come a long way since our humble beginnings in 1924. Over the past century, we've grown and achieved significant milestones thanks to the extraordinary people who have been part of our journey. From our first store opening on Friday, 5 December, 1924 in Sydney's Imperial Arcade to our expansion across the country and abroad, we want to express our deepest gratitude and pay tribute to everyone who has made it all possible. “We are incredibly proud of our heritage and how far we’ve come together,” says Stephen Ward, our Heritage Centre manager and curator. “As a company, we have never lost sight of our core values of caring for our customers, team, suppliers and community partners, and I’m so proud to have been a part of this journey for 51 years.” Join us as we take a walk down memory lane and revisit some of the key moments that have shaped Woolworths Group. As a kid growing up in small bush community, I remember the monthly trips to the ‘big smoke’ of Rockhampton to do our big Woolies shops. Today, I get to celebrate this important milestone as a customer and team member, and contribute to the next 100yrs!
Woolworths Group you launched in 1924 and the very next year building got underway for the Sydney Harbour Bridge ... now 2x amazing icons of Australian history ... it's incredible how you have both surpassed the vision of your founders, as such, in ways that many other businesses / landmarks, that have launched since, haven't been able to achieve! ... Congratulations on the 100x years and looking forward to the next 100x as you continue to service my kids, their kids and grandkids!
And I was there in 1980 at Riverwood supermarket. What a great success story WOW is.
The pertinent question right now is how will the company be remembered over the next 10, 20, 100 years. Currently experiencing problems but with good leadership and respect for staff at all levels, and input from all levels this can be turned around and bring the company back to number one in the Australian communities eyes.
Congratulations on 100yrs serving the community. I started working for Woolworths in 1973 at Mt Druitt Family Centre I have seen the Company grow into what it is today.I retired in 2001.
I really want to work here, share the retail experience and knowledge that I have gained in Indonesia, unfortunately it is very difficult to get a job opportunity at Woolworth.

1wI joined over 40 years ago as a trainee manager at Woolworths Booval Qld. Proudly worked at Woolies for 28 years, finishing my career in Sydney before moving on to other challenges. Was a great company to work for over that time, like a big family. Still many friends from my Woolies days inside and out. 😎 well done Woolies.
