Is success for women simply getting a seat at the table? I say, absolutely not. That’s not enough. As someone raising a daughter, I see the need for something far greater. The world tells women to fight for a seat, but the real power lies in building better tables. It’s not about being invited into spaces created by others, but about reshaping the very foundation of opportunity. It’s about creating environments that aren’t just more inclusive, but transformative—where diversity isn’t just tolerated, but celebrated. We don’t need to squeeze into outdated frameworks; we need to build new systems where women, men, and all voices thrive equally. That’s the future we should be creating for the next generation. My daughter won’t just fight for a seat; she’ll design her own table—and she won’t do it alone. #Innovation #WomenInLeadership #Equality #BuildingTheFuture” Sabrina S.

1. Women want to take men’s places We aren’t taking anyone’s place. Women want to be allowed to work, for example in industries they desire. This isn’t by kicking out the men so they go in. No. It’s by recognizing we have the ability and skills to work in these spaces and letting us in. 2. Women make unreasonable demands Women should stand up for themselves because if we don’t who will? This reminds me of Sheryl Sandberg who revealed that her office didn’t have priority parking for expectant women and only realized it when she had to sprint across the car park to arrive at a meeting when she was expectant. She walked into the boss' office and requested for it to be done, and it was. In this case, it’s not that the office didn’t want to do it. It’s that the men couldn’t think of it as it’s not something they deal with. This isn’t an unreasonable demand. It’s fair and frankly, expected. 3. Women want to be treated like men The idea of women’s empowerment lies in giving girls and women avenues that men have had for the longest time and the only reason they haven’t gotten them is because they are women. Moreover, women want to treated fairly, with respect, dignity and decency. 4. It’s for the benefit of the few Change is slow and painful but we believe that women’s empowerment is for the benefit of all, men & women. Are there women who’ve not opened the door for others? Yes but that doesn’t mean it’s not working. So many of us have the opportunities we do because someone got their hands dirty. What we can change is having generous women who'll bring others in and do away with those who have selfish intentions. 5. Women want special treatment We want fair terms which have already been afforded to men. Also, because there’s been resistance in having women occupy certain places, it’s only fair to have protective regulations. That’s not special treatment. What other women’s empowerment myth have you heard? #womenempowerment #womenshistorymonth #womensmonth #mythbusters #women

The theme for International Women’s Day, "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress," resonates beautifully and timely. Women inherently embody strength and resilience as we navigate through life's phases. Yet, offering additional support can make a significant difference in ensuring no woman is left behind. Many mothers, who temporarily step away from their careers to prioritize their children, often struggle to re-enter the workforce later on. Embracing this theme in your workplace means creating safe and nurturing environments for mothers to thrive, while also championing the professional growth of all women, regardless of race, skin color, or background. Moreover, as women, let us pledge to uplift one another, extending support, encouragement, and guidance whenever needed. Together, we can empower each other to reach greater heights. Happy Women’s Day! Tagging women whose advice and support have been beneficial to me personally in recent times; Oz- Omozino Eguh, Claire Rozain - Carry1st —Thank you!

Today, on Women's Day, we celebrate the incredible achievements of women everywhere. From breaking barriers in the boardroom to leading with creativity and compassion, women are making their mark in every field. Supporting each other is key to overcoming these barriers, and at EXPAND, I strive to create a culture that values diversity, promotes work-life balance, and encourages both personal and professional growth. After all, who says you can't have a career and a life? Being a mother and wife has given me a deeper understanding of the need for flexibility and empathy in the workplace. It’s taught me that sometimes, the best way to lead is with a listening ear and an open heart. I aim to provide an environment where women can pursue their careers without sacrificing their personal lives. By championing policies that support family time, mental health, and professional development, we can create a more inclusive and equitable industry. Because let’s face it, life is a juggling act, and we all need a little support to keep all the balls in the air. The concept of family legacy is deeply important to me. The wisdom and support passed from my mother to my sister and me have been invaluable, shaping us into the women we are today. Now, it’s our duty to pass this legacy on to our daughters, empowering the next generation of women to achieve even greater heights. It's not just about leaving a legacy; it's about living it every day. I am incredibly grateful for the women who have paved the way and those who continue to inspire me every day. Together, we can build a future where every woman has the opportunity to thrive and make her mark. Let's keep lifting each other up and celebrating the amazing things we can achieve together! 🟰 NOT ALL COMPANIES ARE MEANT TO CATER TO ALL EQUALITY NEEDS Looking forward to a ThoughtFullChat with Pacific Prime CXA and Anna Vanessa Haotanto 陳安娜 on the journey as women in tech and healthcare! Inclusivity to me means an equal playing field for all walks of life regardless of gender (whether assigned at birth or chosen), sexuality, socio economic background and physical or mental ability. Now, to be clear, this doesn’t mean that ALL companies need to fulfill ALL criteria - that is not realistic. The reality is, companies first and foremost, need to survive and thrive because without that there will be no job creation for us workers. But different companies of different sizes, stage of development, industry, geography etc. will cater in their capacity, to suit the different needs of the working population. So as employees, we must be realistic of what we expect from a company. If your current priority and needs are overweight on health benefits and perks for your family as well as work life balance for example, perhaps companies with more established structures and deeper balance sheets are better suited for this stage in your chapter. If growth, hands-on experience that may be quick and dirty are what you’re looking for, then perhaps earlier stage companies might be better suited. For employers, avoid the well-being washing. If it’s going to be grueling and not the right environment for certain needs, say it as it is so employees can come in eyes wide open. If you can afford the benefits (be it monetary or otherwise) to cater to a wider needs palate for different worker segments, then share that upfront. At the end of the day - it’s a two-way street, and it always starts with a ThoughtFullChat 😉 #InspireInclusion #IWD2024 ThoughtFull - Employee Mental Wellbeing
