This #WomensHistoryMonth, we have a lot to celebrate, but also a lot to ponder. When thinking about feminism and the current feminist movement, one of the questions that always comes to my mind is: Have we truly been a women’s movement, or have we been a movement for certain women? No book better explores this topic than Mikki Kendall’s 2020 debut essay collection, “Hood Feminism: Notes from the Women that a Movement Forgot.” Kendall calls attention to the many ways in which the modern feminist movement has largely overlooked the trials and tribulations of scores of women who don’t “look” and “act” deserving of equal rights - including those who are poor, unhoused, and unemployed. As Kendall writes: “For a movement that is meant to represent all women, it often centers on those who already have most of their needs met.” This month, let’s remember that when we celebrate Women’s History Month, we also recognize the women who are the most vulnerable, marginalized, and dehumanized. The single mothers who are working hard to make ends meet, and the grandmothers living on Social Security; the women living on the streets, and the ones living in jail cells. If you do anything this month in honor of Women’s History Month, do something for them. And don’t just stop at this month, but do something all year round.
During Women's History Month, Mandy Eidson, Self-Help's Atlanta Regional Director of Business Development & Community Engagement, emphasizes the significance of celebrating diversity, equity, and inclusion. Let's honor the achievements of women from all backgrounds and continue building a more inclusive future. #WomensHistoryMonth #DiversityAndInclusion

We cannot be what we cannot see and this year the theme is "Inspire Inclusion" which we can do from all demographics. Diversity and inclusion doesn't look like anyone, it looks like everyone. #inspireinclusion #iwd2024 #diversityandinclusion #internationalwomensday2024 #bridgethegap #womenempowerment #celebratewomen
Diversity is having a seat at the table, inclusion is having a voice, and belonging is having that voice be heard. This International Women's Day, our celebration goes beyond just today - we want to inspire inclusion! Only by bridging the gap in representation, we open doors for future generations ➡️ We show young girls everywhere that they can achieve anything they set their minds to ✨. We create a world where inclusion isn't a goal, but a reality. 💗 #InternationalWomensDay #ZurichMiddleEast

External Examiners as catalysts for change… This article additionally features the feedback from our External Examiner and the absolutely integral role they play in curriculum and course development. I feel the work of External Examiners is not talked about enough… I am so grateful for Gillian Reid who was instrumental in the changes discussed in this paper- without her feedback followed by on-going support and dialogue surrounding diversifying and making clearer connections between key topics in inclusive practice some of these changes may not have happened… Let’s celebrate the positive work of External Examiners who can be the key catalysts for change! #EE #UWEBristol #Inclusivepractice #change #curriculumdesign #embracechange #ITT
What an honour it is to be published alongside these women! Allyship and solidarity take many forms; ensuring that the voices of racialised minorities are included in your work is important. That is what Karen Williams and Dr Karan Vickers-Hulse did for me. My first official article!!!! Check it out: https://lnkd.in/eQGMrgQV

🌟 Celebrating Women's Day. Now is the time for Action. 🌟 On this Women's Day, let's heed the words of Audre Lorde: "I am not free while any woman is unfree, even when her shackles are very different from my own. "As social justice coaches and feminists, we have a collective responsibility to uplift and empower all women, especially those who continue to face multiple layers of oppression. Let's take action to create inclusive spaces, challenge systemic barriers, and advocate for true equality. Together, we can make a lasting impact. 💪🌍 #InternationalWomensDay #SocialJustice #Feminism #Inclusion #WomensMonth

Yesterday I had the pleasure of joining in a thought-provoking discussion hosted by Sarah Merriot from Wallace LLP & Caroline Boston from New Minds in honour of International Women's Day. This year's theme, #inspireInclusion, set the stage for the conversation that touched on various aspects of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) focusing on SMEs. The discussion was broad and led onto the evolving landscape of hybrid working and flexibility, especially post-pandemic. The room had a variety of participants who shared some great examples of how their businesses are reinforcing commitments to gender neutral DE&I policies. I was struck by how progressive and inclusive these were, from additional paid dependent days, 9-day fortnights to Kudos points systems linked to values and support the DE&I policy. Some businesses are reverting to more face time in the office, for a multitude of reasons. On the one hand there was some debate to suggest that this compromised commitments to the DE&I policy, however others suggested that without this facetime there was an adverse effect on collaboration, continuous learning, and the learning opportunities for those joining the workforce. There was also an important point raised about the benefits that we as social beings feel with regards to our mental health by regularly working in an office environment. Therefore, SMEs need to think about striking the right balance to reap the benefits but also promote the brand and DE&I. It was refreshing to hear that some businesses were trying to attract a wider inter-generational pool of talent back into work, encouraging return to work schemes and initiatives to enable diversity, equity and inclusion. Some practical ideas were also shared where SMEs were creating an environment where people felt more comfortable to have “open calendars” and were vocally championing flexible working. What really stood out was the consensus around the room on role modelling which then sparked some 1-2-1 discussion around behaviours and values that businesses could embody. Having an environment of trust, keeping an open mind that “one size does not fit all” and an appreciation of how enabling initiatives are perceived came through as the key themes. Another take away included that, deep organisational thinking will be needed to encourage how DE&I policy evolves and how the notion is embedded into the culture of a firm. #InternationalWomensDay2024 #inspireInclusion #thepowerofconversation #positivechange #DE&I #iwd2024

This International Women’s Day, Kutak Rock’s Women’s Initiative invites women and female-presenting persons to reflect on this year’s theme, “Inspire Inclusion.” When we remove barriers to inclusion and put systems in place to support women, we create an environment and culture where all individuals are treated with respect and dignity. It’s not enough to eliminate discrimination. True inclusion requires equity and an awareness of intersectionality—equity for women of color, disabled women, queer women, caretaking women, neurodivergent women, pregnant women, women veterans, and those who identify as women. How will YOU inspire inclusion today? #KutakRock #InspireInclusion #IWD #inclusion #equity #women
