Despite the momentum of AI in healthcare, many provider organizations are unsure of how to proceed and capture true ROI from their efforts. In this article for Physicians Practice, the Fathom team debunks some common AI misconceptions and shares actionable steps on the best way to approach AI adoption for your practice, including: [1] Assessing organizational readiness: Lay out workflows, requirements, data availability, and other factors that shape potential AI applications. [2] Identifying inefficiencies in your operations: Comprehensively review pain points to isolate priorities for AI. Many organizations find that administrative workflows such as coding offer significant opportunities to save costs, improve results, and free up resources. [3] Setting measurable goals: Orient your team around what success looks like, thus helping to ensure ROI from the project. For example, autonomous coding should fully automate 90%+ of encounters upon go-live. Such goals provide clear criteria for evaluating impact. [4] Researching AI vendors: Among other criteria, evaluate track record, integration approaches, and scalability to ensure a long-term partnership that grows as you do. [5] Trialing an AI solution and vendor: Test vendor claims for yourself by running a trial first. Any strong vendor should agree to proving performance for a client to validate results and ROI. Unpopular Opinion: Healthcare’s resistance to AI has cost it billions. Strict regulations are no excuse for inefficiency. AI is the answer, and it’s already transforming revenue cycles. Think about it…healthcare has been notoriously slow to adopt new technologies. Whether it’s due to strict regulations or the sheer complexity of systems in place, the industry has lagged behind in terms of innovation. That’s going to change FAST. AI is making it possible to solve some of the most stubborn, costly, and time-consuming problems in healthcare. And it’s starting with the revenue cycle. Here’s the lowdown: Healthcare is a $4 trillion industry, but much of that cost is tied to inefficient systems - especially in billing and payments. AI can change this. By automating complex processes like claims management and payer negotiations, AI is not just cutting costs, but also freeing up valuable resources. That means healthcare providers can focus on what matters most: delivering quality care. At my company, ENTER, we’ve built an AI-powered Revenue Cycle Management platform from the ground up. When we launched, we knew that the healthcare revenue cycle was ripe for disruption: endless paperwork, claims denials, payment delays…it’s a mess. Our solution is already reducing claim errors, speeding up payments, and allowing organizations to scale WITHOUT adding overhead. This is only the beginning! As AI continues to evolve, its potential to revolutionize healthcare systems will only grow. Imagine…real-time claims adjudication, predictive analytics that spot billing issues before they even happen, or even AI-driven recs that improve care outcomes while lowering costs. We’ve already seen awesome results with AI in RCM, but this is only one piece of the puzzle. There’s so much more that AI can bring to healthcare. 👉 I’d love to hear your thoughts: how do you think AI will continue to transform healthcare systems? What’s next on the horizon? Drop your thoughts in the comments below! #AI #HealthcareAI #RCM #HealthTech

I really like this interview with Bill Fera and his point about governance is well-made. I find my clients regularly under-govern their transformation efforts across the organization - AI or otherwise. Additionally, I'm finding a need for greater strategic alignment across the portfolio of transformation initiatives with an eye not just on the metrics for the initiative (as mentioned here) but to take a wholistic view of all transformation initiatives and their measureable impact across the transformation lifecyle (#patient, #provider, #workforce, #VBC, #culturetransformation) and levels of transformation (#technology, #revcycle, #caremodel, #clinicalworkflow, and #patientjourney) https://lnkd.in/gwwP8hQP
