Community Engagement & Social Impact

As I prepare for my first #NYTechWeek, I’ve come up with a few tips to help navigate these major social events and make the most out of your opportunities. Networking pros, please share the wisdom you’ve accumulated in the comments section! 📆 Game Planning: Get your eyes on scheduled events list as soon as it comes out! Identify the events you should attend based on topics that align with your interests and goals. 🎯 Goal-Setting: What are you looking to achieve? Want to meet potential clients or investors? Looking to increase the visibility and awareness of your company’s mission? Want to connect with industry influencers and learn about innovative market trends?   💬 Engage: Effective networking is oftentimes about building authentic relationships from scratch. Approach someone new and introduce yourself, ask questions, listen closely, and give thoughtful responses. And, be yourself.   🎙 Pitch Perfect: You know what it is… have that elevator pitch finely tuned and ready for its debut… over, and over again. ️ ☕ Reflect and follow-up: Initial engagement is just part of the relationship-building process. Check in with like-minded, mission-aligned folks you connected with. Set up a call, grab lunch, chat over coffee, and continue creating opportunities for you to understand one another's goals. Events can be long and may require rest so practice self-care and recharge your social battery as often as you need to. If you’re a social butterfly, hit a happy hour with your new industry friends. Winston Fletcher – Absolutely love these tips! As a (secret) introvert, one thing I've found helpful is reaching out to my network to see if anyone else will be at the event or asking for their help in making intros!
