It's the final day of Rural Housing Week 2024, this year focusing on why it's important that the new Government should commit to a long-term plan for housing. The best way to highlight the need for affordable housing in rural communities comes from our residents themselves..... “Unable to purchase a home, and requiring an additional bedroom, we joined Homefinder Somerset in 2020, moving into our new home in North Petherton this year. We no longer have to share a bedroom with our daughter, and the additional space to live comfortably is a godsend. The house layout and build quality is exceptional. We never could have imagined living in a home this beautiful and it's difficult to put into words what this means to our family. We are very grateful to Willow Tree Housing Partnership giving us the opportunity to live in such a beautiful home back in the village.” #RuralHousingWeek

Someone in the comments stated the Villa at Titusville is already beginning to show signs of decay and destruction. Birmingham Housing Authority just like City of Birmingham provides housing for the least likely to excel beyond government dependency to becoming productive and sustainable citizens. Both BHA and the City of Birmingham the two entities support young women with dependent children instead of citizens who are working towards earning a higher education, entrepreneurs, and middle age to older people. The Birmingham Housing Authority and the City of Birmingham place the wrong type of people in new housing, and the citizens who take pride and care of their housing and homes are displaced and put on the back of waiting lists for housing and emergency rental assistance. Therefore, the new new communities built and in the blueprint phase will in five to ten years decay and begin to look like yesterday’s government housing projects. In retrospect, what do I know about housing, placement and displacement? https://lnkd.in/eFHnjPkc

You know you’re in the heart of a city that cares when a long-standing DMV site transforms into a vibrant, affordable housing complex! 🏠✨ Governor Gavin Newsom announced plans to redevelop the 1377 Fell St. location into a mixed-use complex featuring 372 affordable housing units alongside a modern DMV office. This project aims to provide homes for residents earning 30% to 80% of the area’s median income, making strides toward addressing the city’s housing crisis. Scheduled for completion by August 2030, this development enhances the community and sets a precedent for utilizing state-owned land to create essential housing solutions. 💬 What do you think about this initiative? Housing Nightmares: The Real Monsters Behind the Affordable Housing Crisis This Halloween, we’re highlighting some true horrors in the housing world that make building affordable homes a real nightmare: Endless Red Tape - Complicated processes and overwhelming paperwork stall even the most promising projects. Soaring Taxes & Fees - High development charges and taxes are scaring away affordable housing opportunities, leaving developers—and communities—paying the price. DC Waivers - The challenge of accessing these crucial fee reductions often leaves projects stuck in limbo, making it harder to bring affordable housing to life. Government Regulations - Layers of regulations intended for safety sometimes spiral into unnecessary barriers, leaving housing projects tangled in a web of delays. High Interest Rates - Rising rates are squeezing budgets, pushing homes out of reach for too many families. NIMBYism: Local opposition can delay or block vital projects, making it harder to bring much-needed housing into communities. At Spotlight Development Inc., we’re working to break through these obstacles and create pathways for affordable, community-driven housing. By focusing on collaboration, advocacy, and innovative solutions, we’re dedicated to turning these nightmares into new homes and communities that work for everyone. 🔔 This is how it starts… Maintenance Heroes, a division of Occupancy Heroes Incorporated is embarking on the 4️⃣th duplex conversion in our mission to provide affordable housing and create generational wealth. We acquired a package of dilapidated single-family houses… homes that were barely standing, yet still occupied by residents, including children, who were paying rent. 😡 Neglected properties and poor living conditions were their reality. Sad but TRUE‼️ We’ve since relocated these families and are transforming these spaces into like-new duplexes. 🌟 Our commitment⁉️ Welcoming them back to safe, dignified, and comfortable homes they can be proud of. My motto has always been: If we own it, we should be able to live in it comfortably. 💯 Because people matter. When you treat people right, they’ll do right by you. 😉 Stay tuned as we continue to uplift communities, one home at a time. 🤗 #AffordableHousing #DuplexConversion #CommunityDevelopment #GenerationalWealth #PeopleMatter #DoRightByPeople #PropertyTransformation #MaintenanceHeroes #OccupancyHeroes #HousingJustice #UpliftingCommunities #Chiccorra #CommunityBuilders #RealEstate #Investment #Housing https://lnkd.in/esiTkG7R

Can #AffordableHousing truly knit a community back together? How often do we witness transformative developments that genuinely improve lives? Recently, the James Lewis Jr. Apartments were featured in The Post and Courier (written by Ali Rockett), highlighting the significant impact the community has on the lives of residents and the community on Charleston's East Side. Esther Davis, a resident of the complex, shared her journey from a challenging past to finding peace (and a fresh start) in her new home in Charleston. Her story bears witness to the development’s #CommunityImpact, which provides a sense of ownership and pride. The building, which houses 64 affordable units for those earning 60 percent or below of the Area Median Income, filled up within 30 days of opening — a clear indicator of the critical need for such housing. The city's contribution of $7 million through Affordable Housing and the strategic lease of land at $1 per year underscore a commitment to affordable housing that ensures long-term community benefits. The property's design to revert ownership back to the city after 60 years guarantees that it will remain an affordable haven perpetually. This development, which took nearly 14 years from planning to completion, is not just about building homes but about restoring a fragmented community. The vision of leaders like Councilman James Lewis, Jr., who championed affordable housing to "knit back together" the East Side, is now a living reality. Let's celebrate these milestones in affordable housing and continue to support initiatives that offer more than just a roof but a pathway to a better life. We have a pressing housing crisis affecting Maine and the entire nation. With decades of chronic underproduction and recent spikes in demand due to historically low interest rates, we are now facing unprecedented challenges in the housing market. There is a critical need for building approximately 7 million homes nationwide to meet demand, and in Maine alone we require an additional 84,000 homes to achieve market equilibrium. In order to achieve these goals for housing, it's important to have community involvement and to actively contribute to solutions that not only support the economy but also provide affordable living options for those involved in housing development. #mainehousing #housing #housingcrisis
