March 2024 was a historic month for Volvo Group; the company recorded record sales and produced its last diesel engine car. Here is everything you need to know. 🔋 Supercharged Sales: Sales for March rose by 25% from a year earlier to 78,970 vehicles, a monthly record. First-quarter sales overall rose by 12%. The company said sales of fully electric cars were up 43% and accounted for 23% of all sales globally last month. It expects EVs to account for half of its sales volumes by the middle of the decade and to sell only EVs by 2030. 🛢ICE out of Style:Volvo stopped building diesel engines and the last off the line was an XC90 SUV built at the Torslanda plant in Sweden in late March 2024. The car will live in a museum. Takeaways: Despite tough conditions for pure EV manufacturers globally, Volvo is experiencing a surge in its electrified vehicle segment. Volvos unique mix of battery electric vehicles as well as hybrids insulates the company from some of the turmoil facing its pure EV competitors. General Motors hosted its Investor Day earlier this week where they outlined its continued commitment to electric vehicles. GM’s EV sales increased by 60% year-on-year in 3Q24 and GM sees EV losses peaking in 2024. GM is planning to release its new Chevy Bolt in 2025, which GM expects to appeal to a mass market audience. In addition, GM is diversifying and optimizing its battery strategy, which GM expects to yield further cost improvements in its battery ecosystem and deliver greater savings to its customers. Specifically, GM outlined a path to greater than $30/kWh cost reduction in 2025. #EV #lithium #LIRC #energytransition
