Our Retail Dilemma: Welcome to our salon 'Sakers' and The Birth of Callo When we took on a small, unique salon space 2.5 years ago, we had a clear vision: to create an intimate, spacious, and homely experience for our clients. Quite the challenge, considering this was once an office inside a country club! We quickly realised that filling our space with shelves of retail stock would not only take up valuable room but disrupt the atmosphere we worked so hard to build. So, we made the decision to rule out traditional retail displays. But how could we still offer our clients the products they love without the clutter? We assumed there’d be a simple solution—but we were wrong. There were no systems available to seamlessly allow clients to order our recommendations without physically stocking products or asking them to go online themselves. Culinary dream. To be honest, b-f-t-m has never had the opportunity to collaborate with supermarkets or similar structures, and personally, neither have I. Not because they're not of interest to us, but because over the years, we've focused on different sectors. However, we always nurture curiosity and pay close attention to certain creative exercises that have a truly holistic approach. The Westblom Krasse Arkitektkontor studio, the design agency Snask, and the graphic designer Jens Nilsson collaborated to create a new concept for ICA Stop supermarket, part of Sweden's largest supermarket chain. The goal was to completely revamp the store, develop a new brand, and introduce a shopping concept unlike any other supermarket in Sweden, aiming to create a more personalized shopping experience. Reflecting on the whirlwind of innovation and creativity at Merchandise World in Coventry, I've distilled my experience into three key takeaways that resonate deeply with my roles in Design Operations and as a Creative/Brand Director: 1. Integration of Sustainability in Product Design One of the most impactful revelations was the industry-wide shift towards sustainability. Many exhibitors showcased eco-friendly products and packaging solutions that not only meet consumer expectations but also pave the way for a greener future in merchandise. This trend underlines the importance of integrating sustainable practices into our design and production processes, a mission that aligns with our brand's commitment to environmental responsibility. It's clear that sustainability is no longer a niche market trend but a fundamental aspect of product development that brands must embrace to stay relevant and responsible. 2. Embracing Technological Innovations The advancements in technology showcased at the event were nothing short of revolutionary. From augmented reality (AR) applications enhancing product personalization to the use of AI in streamlining design operations, technology is setting a new benchmark for efficiency and customer engagement. This exposure has sparked ideas on how we can leverage these technologies within our own operations to enhance creativity, improve workflow efficiency, and deliver more personalized and engaging brand experiences. Adopting these technological innovations will be crucial in maintaining a competitive edge and meeting the evolving demands of our clients and consumers. 3. The Power of Collaboration and Community Networking with peers, industry leaders, and innovative startups highlighted the immense value of collaboration and community in driving forward the merchandise industry. The exchange of insights, strategies, and experiences provided a fresh perspective on overcoming common challenges and seizing new opportunities. It reinforced my belief in the power of community-driven innovation and the benefits of fostering partnerships and collaborations. Moving forward, I am more committed than ever to leveraging these connections to explore new avenues for growth, creativity, and operational excellence. Merchandise World in Coventry was not just an event; it was a catalyst for change and inspiration, pushing us to think differently about design, sustainability, technology, and the power of our professional community. #fridayfeeling

Connecting the #digitalexperience to the human experience. 100% "mobile dining" for 2 years - the service had to completely change. Even though we are leaning more into our digital experience, which may seem less human, they want to be seen as a "lifestyle brand" for its customers. Today, 50% digital orders. They prioritized bringing their culture into loyalty and digital business. BEFORE: a transactional / convenience driven loyalty program NOW: enhanced loyalty to be more experience led. Our locals are special and if they come back, they're getting more special offerings they can't get elsewhere. Gen Z - Obsessed with getting more than what everyone else has, exclusivity.
