Employees take mental health days off for many reasons from feeling tired or stressed, to prolonged mental health challenges such as depression. In our blog, we discuss how poor mental health can come with a hidden cost to businesses in the form of presenteeism. So how can employee mental health be boosted? 🧡 Getting workers moving more could be key to creating a happier and more productive workplace — not just in terms of physical wellbeing, but mental health too. 👉 Moving more in the workplace doesn’t have to involve special equipment or big changes to the way you work. It just takes willing role models in leadership to drive a flexible and positive culture that encourages employees to take a bit of time out of their day to get moving: https://bit.ly/3RsKbmf #MentalHealth #PhysicalHealth #MovingMoreforMentalHealth #Absence #Presenteeism

#WorldMentalHealthDay In today's fast-paced world, rife with challenges and uncertainties, open conversations about mental health are more crucial than ever. Checking in with a friend, a colleague, or even with yourself can make a significant impact. This year, the World Federation for Mental Health has made workplace mental health its central theme. This global initiative underscores that mental health in the workplace is not just an individual concern but a collective responsibility in all professional settings. By prioritising mental health at work, we can create environments that support individuals in reaping the benefits of a mentally healthy workplace and foster more robust, resilient teams and organisations. Work can be a powerful source of wellbeing because it gives us purpose, increases our self-esteem, and helps us feel connected to each other. However, whilst this is important to acknowledge, the downside can be that it is a significant source of stress and anxiety, risk factors for increased mental health challenges. This drives home the need to take tangible steps to address work stress. It is worth remembering that while we are encouraged to take action today, having these conversations in the workplace each day throughout the year is essential. #WorkplaceWellbeing #MentalHealthAwareness #EmployeeWellbeing #OccupationalHealth #WorkplaceMentalHealth #HealthAndSafety #WellbeingAtWork #StrongerTogether

This Loneliness Awareness Week, we’re looking at the impact of loneliness in the workplace. According to the Marmalade Trust, in 2022 three in five people reported feeling lonely at work. Loneliness can have a negative impact on employees’ physical and mental health, and can contribute to mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety. In the workplace, loneliness can also impact business as it may lead to diminished performance, reduced creativity, and impaired decision making or reasoning. Over time, this can lead to reduced productivity, more frequent absences, and increased staff turnover. So what can employers do to address the issue of loneliness at work? Check out our next post for some tips! #loneliness #lonelinessawarenessweek #wellbeing #wellbeingatwork #wellbeingtips

🌍 Employee Mental Health: A Call for Collective Action 🌍 We talk about mental health, but often only after the damage is done. It's heartbreaking to see that mental wellness is still treated like a "last resort" topic, something to address after a crisis. 💔 The truth? Mental health issues don't just fall into HR’s lap—it’s everyone’s responsibility. Every single one of us plays a role in creating a work environment that prioritizes mental well-being before it becomes too late. Globally, we’ve seen burnout and mental health challenges wreak havoc in the workplace because early signs are often ignored or overlooked. It's time we stop waiting for "the next incident" to happen before acting. 👉 Let's flip the narrative and be proactive, not reactive. 👉 Let's create meaningful and impactful change by standing together as a collective force. It's not just a job for the HR team—it's a responsibility we all share. 🧘🏽♀️🧠Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up In recent years, I’ve noticed that conversations about mental health have finally become part of mainstream workplace discussions. But for me, this is more than a trending topic. Mental health is a necessity, and creating a work environment that supports it is a responsibility we all share. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. Sharing will always reduce your burden . I believe that a healthy workplace is one where: 1. People Feel Safe to Speak Up: Creating a non-judgmental space where employees can discuss mental health without fear is a priority. 2. Balance is Emphasized Over Burnout: Encouraging regular breaks, flexible work, and respect for personal time helps avoid burnout and fosters a healthier, happier team. 3. Mental Health Resources are Accessible: From counseling to peer support programs, having resources available shows employees they’re genuinely valued. As an HR , it’s my goal to ensure mental health remains at the forefront of our culture, helping every person feel empowered and supported. #MentalHealthMatters #WorkplaceWellbeing #EmpathyAtWork #HR #happiness #positiveworkculture #joy #dopamine #teamwork

Despite the increased focus and conversation surrounding mental wellness in the workplace, employees are not experiencing the positive effects on their overall well-being. The issue lies in the fact that company cultures are not keeping up with the benefits being provided. As per the findings of Headspace's 2024 Workplace State of Mind report, work-related stress has had adverse effects on the physical health of 77% of workers and their personal relationships outside of work for 71%. This highlights the urgent need for companies to prioritize authentic cultural transformations rather than just surface-level solutions. It is imperative for leaders to create environments where staff can openly prioritize self-care without facing any negative consequences, stressing that supporting mental health should go beyond mere compliance and instead focus on nurturing a culture that genuinely promotes well-being. This paradigm shift is not only vital for individual health but also for the overall effectiveness and longevity of organizations. #leadership #MentalHealth #stress #burnout
