As we gear up for ##WorldEngineeringDay, we’re sharing a few engineering jokes that the internet is brimming with. This one, in particular, is a favourite of ours. World Engineering Day is a collaborative effort between UNESCO and WFEO - World Federation of Engineering Organizations, aimed at spotlighting the remarkable achievements of engineers globally! While this joke may not underscore any specific achievement, it does offer a humorous glimpse into the problem-solving mindset that engineers are renowned for. It’s a light-hearted reminder that engineers are always on the lookout for better, more efficient solutions. A vaincre sans peril on triomphe sans gloire (Part 2) ! Time is flying. Already two years have passed since I joined Prologium Technology 輝能科技. And the last 12 months were really really busy as you can imagine and may have seen in previous posts. First it is important to mention how proud I am to work in ProLogium and with Vincent Yang its Founder and CEO. He is a visionary leader who has been striving in the last 18 year to build ProLogium as a full fledged company crossing the line of 1,200 employees. A company among the very few in advanced development of solid-state batteries, the “Electric Vehicle Grail” as explained by Guillaume Guichard from Les Echos. And the one leading the pack both in chemistry and in manufacturing capability as shown through the Grand Opening of the World’s First Giga-level Solid-State Lithium Ceramic Battery Factory on January 23rd, 2024. Second, I am equally proud that ProLogium has decided establish its major production facility in foreseeable future in Dunkirk-France. This was the result of a more-than-a-year process starting from almost 100 sites in 13 countries in Europe. There are obvious reasons for this choice ranging from a decarbonized and cost competitive electricity to a burgeoning GigaFactory environment (we would become the 4th one in Northern France Region and the 2nd in Dunkirk), the land availability in a very well connected deep-sea harbor and the quality and relative availability of skilled manpower. Again the fact the French authorities have been working as a team to support and coach us through the technical process toward the different authorizations and necessary consultations has been critically important. During this period of time: - We kept on building ProLogium awareness by attending numerous events like EES in Munich, Territoires&Industrie event, Global Mobility Call in Madrid and Future Battery Forum in Berlin just to name some of them; - We have announced our project in Dunkirk on May 12 and have successfully completed the prior consultation process under the aegis of the Commission nationale du débat public (CNDP), and have already initiated the environmental and building process; - We have started to build our team in Europe both in our Dunkirk and Paris office; - We have maintained an intense level of technical discussion with potential clients both in the automotive and aeronautics fields (but I cannot be more specific because of NDA in place); - And again I travelled back and forth to Taiwan, the US, in Europe and obviously in Dunkirk. And I enjoyed every part of this journey. Obviously this is not an easy path and there are a lot of difficulties to handle. We’re climbing our Everest and are doing step-by-step with energy and passion. And it was just the second year. Stay tuned, so more to come... #leadingthewaytonextgenerationbatteries

📽 Introducing the #DrasticProject’s Spanish Demonstrator! 📽 Attending to the structural layer of buildings, Drastic’s Spanish Demonstrator tackles two materials that can have the largest environmental impact within the built environment life cycle: cement and steel. With no established ecosystem for the disassembly and reuse of structural steel elements, this Demonstrator looks to implement and prove the feasibility of such a system. As well as this, this project aims to repurpose a by-product from the secondary steelmaking process, known as white slag, via its application as a supplementary material within concrete. Drastic is a pioneering initiative that aims to demonstrate affordability, sustainability and circularity within the built environment via a collection of innovative European pilot projects known as 'Demonstrators’. Here are some highlights from week one of the CIBER program
Week one of our faculty/professional overseas study tour to Sweden introduced us to various government, semi-government, and non-government organizations that comprise the rich innovation and sustainability infrastructure in the country. We visited and heard from Business Sweden, Vinnova, the Swedish Energy Agency, the Svenska institutet, the Swedish Parliament, and the Svensk Däckåtervinning AB, and we learned about the efforts that the government takes to support and commercialize innovative ideas, attract foreign investment, and create a more sustainable and inclusive society and economy. We were also hosted by KTH Royal Institute of Technology, one of Europe’s leading technical and engineering universities, and three of its centers – Digital Futures, KTH Innovation, and KTH Live-in Lab – where an emphasis on fostering interdisciplinary and multi-level research at every stage, a welcoming environment, and an extensive collaboration between academia and industry, has led to an increase in successful startups creation and diversification of the entrepreneurship pool. And speaking of industry and startups, we did get to meet representatives of several companies working on cutting-edge technologies promoting sustainability – such as Hexicon (developer of floating offshore wind technology), BL!XT (producer of the world’s first miniature solid-state circuit breaker), MINE STORAGE (which is striving to enable a zero-carbon grid by using underground mines to store energy), NoviOcean by NOVIGE AB (offering a groundbreaking offshore power plant combining wave, wind, and solar power), Elonroad (developer of electric road technology), THINGS AB (the number one DeepTech hub with over 100 member companies), Klimato (which has created food industry carbon footprint calculators and labels), and Norna (an AI-driven, large-scale data collection and analytics platform). Many thanks to our hosts who welcomed us and generously shared their insights! #InternationalBusiness #Sustainability #NordicInnovation Lena Sellgren, Anne Lidgard, Sofie Fjellgren, Christian Biller, Stefan Östlund, Viktoria Fodor, Donnie SC Lygonis, Marco Molinari, Peter Selemark, Marcus Thor, Trued Holmquist, Thomas Johansson, Jan G.
