Yesterday at the European Internet Forum, we engaged in a lively debate regarding the White Paper on the Future of Connectivity, which underscores the critical role of digital networks for the EU’s competitiveness and innovation. During our discussion, it was underlined that market consolidation will be essential in the long term. In the short term, our immediate focus must be deploying robust electronic communication infrastructure to achieve our horizontal connectivity objectives. The Draghi Report echoes this approach, highlighting the necessity for regulatory reforms, the harmonization of spectrum licensing, and the streamlining of the telecom market. According to the European Commission, 200 billion euros are required to deploy full 5G standalone coverage in all populated areas in Europe. Addressing this challenge is crucial for fostering competitiveness and innovation across the EU, where the Single Market is our main asset. Finally, I want to recall that the future Digital Network Act (DNA) should go beyond another layer of regulation. It should be a catalyst for scalability, investment, and the establishment of a level playing field among operators.
