𝐑𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑&𝐃 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 Sourced through an 'anonymous email' and being echoed by unofficial confirmations - that a well-known R&D advisory group has ceased trading from a number of entities. If true, then naturally there's a degree of concern for their staff and customers; people will potentially have been left high and dry; there's talk of 100+ redundancies. Whilst it will have some impact on the R&D advice market, I suspect it won't have a huge impact on me, Wandsworth Consulting or a number of advisors that I know; speaking personally, I've never lost a client to that group, nor picked a client up from them either - it's safe to say we operate in different markets. It'll be interesting to see what happens next - some of the group apparently lives on; is it a question of time that's keeping it going, or a rationalisation in the face of HMRC challenges across the market? -------------------------------------------- If you liked this post: ♻️ Share it with others 💬 Comment on it 🫱🫲 Connect with me 🚶♂️Follow Jonny Brewster #️⃣ #jonnybdoesrandd and #randdtaxcredits

Access to advice “should cost taxpayers nothing”, said Harriet Baldwin MP at Dynamic Planner's 'Scaling Success' conference today (5 March). The advice landscape, claims Harriet, is like a supermarket that charges an upfront fee for “lots of healthy options, meal plans and easy-to-cook recipes”, while most people are “stuck in the free section with poor options and potential scams”. 🎃👻 Spooky Season Alert! 👻🎃 As a CPA who works in tax and audit, I can’t help but see Halloween through a different lens: 🕸️ Trick or Treat? Just like Halloween candy, some numbers seem sweet... until you dig a little deeper! Due diligence and audits are all about making sure there are no tricks in the treats. 🍬 🧛 Financial Vampires – Watch out for those hidden expenses and revenue-draining activities! Spotting these is all about experience and a keen eye for detail. 🕵️♂️ 🎃 Ghost Assets – No, they’re not haunting the books (hopefully), but we do find those long-forgotten assets that need to be accounted for or written off. 👻 Phantom Revenues – They might give the financials a boost, but when they’re not real, it’s bound to come back and haunt you. It’s always Halloween in the world of CPAs! We uncover the mysteries, face the frights, and help keep things transparent year-round. Happy Halloween! 🎃 #CPA #Audit #Tax #Halloween #AccountingFun

Happy Friday, everyone! 🎉 You know you're an accountant when you're excited about the weekend, but you still can't resist those spreadsheets! 😂 Here's a little accounting humor to kick off your weekend: Why don't accountants ever make coffee? Because it's always tax-ing and they don't want to 'espresso' their feelings about it! ☕️😄 Do not forget that, in the world of debits and credits, you're priceless. Have a balanced weekend, folks! 💼📚 #FridayFeeling #AccountingHumor #BalancedWeekend

The below recurring themes can be present in both strong and weak R & D claims. HMRC do not have the added advantage of having spoken to the taxpayer before they decide whether or not to select a claim for enquiry. It is therefore important to prepare R & D reports and supporting documentation well to give the best chance of HMRC being satisfied first time that a claim is valid therefore preventing an enquiry and/or amendment to the claim made.
What are some of the recurring themes we see in R&D enquiries? 🔸Reports – we often come across reports that are too long with too much irrelevant information 🔸Financial Schedules – very few provide a comprehensive breakdown of costs, staff roles, titles and R&D activity 🔸Responses to HMRC – questions are not concisely answered or in order 🔸Penalties – these can be given by HMRC if you fail to notify them or a mistake or error in your claim Are you currently struggling with one of these issues? If so, we would love to chat with you. Be sure to reach out to our team for confidential support.
