West Peak - BCorp’s Post

Why are your leaders failing more than 60% of the time without you knowing? Many businesses promote their top individual contributors into leadership roles. It seems like a logical move, right? Here’s the problem... This often leads to what’s known as the Peter Principle, which suggests: “Being good at thing A leads to a promotion to do thing B, where thing B requires a different skillset.” In other words, individuals often rise to a level or role for which they are not competent. This is a significant issue for CEOs and business leaders, and we're on a mission to solve it. This problem results in unhappy teams, stressed leaders, and overall failure. Here are my four key steps to avoid this costly trap: ✅ Identify leadership talent ✅ Provide taster opportunities to lead a bit ✅ Develop a practical leadership skillset ✅ Give leaders regular, candid feedback Following this process will help you identify the right potential leaders in your business and set them up for success. What additional key step would you suggest?
