WESNET (Women's Services Network) Inc.’s Post

Congratulations to Julie Oberin AM, former Chair of Wesnet, for her recent induction into the Victorian Women’s Honour Roll as a Change Agent. Julie has pioneered many of the advances in the way family violence is understood in Australia and the State of Victoria. This includes her work on children, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, women on temporary visas, coercive control, emotional abuse, and technology-facilitated abuse around a decade before they became embedded and accepted concepts in the Australian discourse. All the while she has been helping thousands of women and their children become safe, rebuild and re-establish their lives at the Annie North high security women's refuge and family violence service in Bendigo, Victoria. For most of her career she has not only worked with individuals but also sought to effect change at a whole-of-society level by influencing and informing policy-makers and legislators at the local, state, national and international levels. We warmly congratulate Julie for this well deserved recognition.
