SCG is excited to announce our 2024 Annual Conference, Better Together: Creating a Collective Legacy, which will take place on Thursday, September 26, 2024! We are entering a unique moment in Southern California. Major sporting events coming to Los Angeles, including the 2026 World Cup, the 2027 Super Bowl, and the 2028 Summer Olympics and Paralympics, are harbingers of the role our region must play as a leader working to solve complex problems from housing and homelessness to climate change and disaster mitigation. There are tremendous opportunities ahead for our region. All of us working across sectors—philanthropy, government, corporate, and community-based organizations—have vital roles to play. But we can't go about it alone. Now, more than ever, we need partnership. Because when we work together, we work better. SCG's 2024 Annual Conference, Better Together: Creating a Collective Legacy, will explore how our sector can leverage this pivotal moment for the long-term benefit of our communities. We will discuss how forging a legacy of equity and prosperity for our region will require us to deepen our relationships and strengthen our collaborative spirit. Our speakers will guide us through the critical issues our sector will grapple with in the years ahead, the consequences of the impending November elections, and the strategies needed to ensure a lasting impact in Southern California. We hope you will join your peers for SCG's largest event of the year. For a limited time, members of SoCal Grantmakers, Northern California Grantmakers, and Catalyst of San Diego & Imperial Counties can access Early Bird Tickets – a discount of $75 off the regular ticket price! Being part of a community, and gathering in person can save lives. Research suggests that social capital (the networks of relationships among people who live and work in a particular society, enabling that society to function effectively) leads to outcomes like higher trust, an increased sense of connection, better individual wellbeing, and as a result, longer life expectancy*. Festival for the Future (FFF) is a community characterised by pragmatic optimism. This is because it's an event built on intergenerational connection. Festival participants span all ages and backgrounds. They are hungry for a future that is as diverse as it is collective and as purposeful as it is impactful. And they're up for being put on the spot for a dance battle (shoutout to Ben from Create Now, pictured). Last year we worked with Guy Ryan, Katie Trott, and the wider Inspiring Stories team to help translate FFF's values into storytelling opportunities to help champions like Tory Whanau and Quack Pirihi grow the community. This year, we're attending as participants to recharge and find resources for the second half of 2024. After a year that started with conversations where we asked, "is this going to be a harder year than the one the economy shut down for two months so we could stop the spread?", we need to constantly find reframes. And this is the event to do it. Whether you're young or old, fill your cup at Festival. It's happening next Wednesday and Thursday (July 17tn and 18th) at the TSB Arena in Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington) and there are tickets still available. Hope to see you there. 😊 Tickets at ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gitxZtE *https://lnkd.in/gGJc_SME #FFTF24 #FestivalForTheFuture #ForwardThinking #Changemakers

At the I.I.M.U.N. Championship 2024, we had the privilege of hearing from Anand Satyanand, former Governor-General of New Zealand, Rosalia Arteaga, former President of Ecuador, and Rosa Otunbayeva, former President of Kyrgyzstan, in a segment moderated by Dr. Shashi Tharoor where they engaged in a discussion on building a roadmap to promote the concept of a global village. Here are a few key lessons we learned during the session: 1. Communication has globalized the world: With the advancement of technology, communication has broken down barriers, connecting people across continents in real-time. This interconnectedness has made the world smaller, creating opportunities for cultural exchange, collaboration, and shared progress. 2. We should strive to live in peace and harmony: A peaceful and harmonious life fosters mutual respect and understanding, reducing conflicts in society. Embracing peace within and around us helps build stronger, more compassionate communities. 3. Educate, agitate, organize: Knowledge empowers individuals to question injustices and take action. By learning, raising awareness, and organizing efforts, people can create meaningful social change. 4. Show respect to everyone: Respecting others, regardless of background or beliefs, fosters inclusivity and empathy. It forms the foundation of healthy relationships and promotes unity in diversity. 5. Social media fosters a sense of a global community: Social media bridges distances, enabling individuals to share experiences and ideas instantly. This constant connectivity creates a digital global village, where borders blur, and communities unite over common interests.
