Such a fun topic to discuss! The reality is there is no perfect method for leading other leaders. It’s a balancing act. Extraordinarily high performing leaders can shift and move to motivate others in ways that produce both happiness and results for the organization.

Leadership is discussed in today's TED lecture. The thought experiment compares two polar explorers, one successful and the other prone to disaster, to demonstrate leadership perspectives. It criticises the promotion of Ernest Shackleton's flawed leadership while forgetting Roald Amundsen's success. He claims society falls for the 'action fallacy,' mistaking dramatic stories for good leadership. This historical example shows how honouring the wrong leaders affects leadership development. The action fallacy promotes ineffective leaders, affecting company performance and culture. It suggests rethinking leadership to emphasise those who avoid drama by planning and foresight rather than those who produce spectacle. The need for 'boring management'—influential leaders' unsung work—is stressed. The talk suggests looking beneath the surface to find and reward leaders who contribute to long-term success rather than drama. Today, leaders who are heard often, talk a lot, are busy and active in every field, always seek credit, are quick to blame, and obfuscate are considered influential leaders. US marine officers look for "our lieutenant" rather than "the lieutenant" in cadets' references to officers. Several trains of thought occur to me after watching this video. And feel free to pick the one you most agree with: 1. In Agreement (with the video) - “celebrate the leaders who mitigate rather than promote drama”. Boring management matters. 2. Contrarian (to the video) - truly great leaders are those who can navigate crises successfully, a testament to their character, talent, ability to adapt and motivate their teams. Their brash example is important to push and inspire others to their best. 3. Middle-of-the-road (that the video barely addresses) - great leaders mitigate crises, most of the time, but have the gumption, charisma and grit to successfully tackle the ones she/he cannot avoid. They are measured in talking about their wins, and they bring out best from their team through authenticity and selflessness. (I am purposefully not revealing what I generally gravitate towards, but if you know me well enough you’d know what I’d pick) But then again, the whole point of the video is not to debate leadership styles, but rather to reframe the perceptions of leadership in this modern age where everyone has a megaphone in their pockets. …And maybe to do some soul-searching ourselves. #leadership

Being a great leader isn’t rocket science. It’s a skill that can be learned. But we don’t talk enough about how. We just expect leaders to magically figure it out - or already know. Why we celebrate incompetent leaders? Challenges requieres somebody who can motivate us, for that reason it is important that we celebrate the right leardes. "The leaders we celebrate are the leaders we learn from". The mistake is that we believe that the best leader are those who generate the most noise action. "We confuse a good story for a good leadership". But, a good leader results in a bad story. Nowadays in the office we tend to see leadership potencial in people who speak more, appear confident or are perpetually busy. Organizations are not performing at their full potencial and it create a toxic culture because actually doing good work feel overlooked and demotivated. It is a cycle because instead of discouraging this, we create more and more bad leaders. The good new is that we can solve this problem, We have to start to imagine how a good leadership looks like. We have to pay attetion on those who are obsessive planners, those who are authentic and create the best in people. Take a moment to look below the surface or in the quieter corners of your team. Look for the leaders who avoids getting stuck in the ice in the first place.
