Well, well… I am dusting off the LinkedIn thread dust that has gathered since my last post to announce a new creative initiative that has sparked through a season of intense rest and reflection. Through significant grief and loss, I decided to take an “adult gap year” to heal. In the last month, I’ve sat in deep thought to ask myself what I truly want for this new beginning… and that answer was community. With that said, I decided to move with aligned action into a calling that came to me while I shared some pretty thought-provoking thoughts over on my personal Threads page. Therefore, I am honored to introduce… Beyond the Threads. Beyond The Threads is a monthly live call for women craving connection that runs deeper than double-taps and comment threads. Here, we move past the carefully curated threads of social media to discover the real stories, vulnerable struggles, and genuine triumphs that make us human. So, about two months ago, I did a workshop for introverted women at the Engaging Women Conference in South Bend, Indiana. That conference really did do a lot for me, not only as a speaker but a participant. As I sit here reflecting on what I learned and what I took from it, I looked over and saw my Courage to Be star that was given to me for being a speaker. Thank you, Joan McClendon & Redgina Hill, PhD for the invitation. I am forever grateful! Had I not done that I wouldn’t be here now being a little vulnerable, something that I just do not do on social media… So one thing that I definitely held back on is being my true self on social media, specifically LinkedIn. I can express myself in dance (my happy place). I can be goofy and let it go with my clients (those 1:1 conversations). But, being open on social media is definitely different for me especially when LinkedIn is a place of business. One thing that kind of worried me before I got on social media was people openly disagreeing with me. Anybody who knows me & that’s worked with me knows that I don’t mind somebody disagreeing with me. I can deal with that. No problem! So, I wondered why it was different with social media…? One thing that I do know is that I have to face my fears. I work with my clients on helping them face their fears all day long. But, just because I’m a coach doesn’t mean that I’m perfect, and here I am saying “yes” I did and do have fear. However, the thing about having that fear is that it has pushed me forward because I do not like being stuck or stagnant. I know if I stayed in that place I wouldn’t be able to reach the women that I know I’m supposed to reach. So not only am I doing this for me (#1), I’m doing it for all the other women out there that are stuck in fear and want to move forward. Whether you’re an introvert or extrovert, we all have fears we need to face to propel us forward. I’ve been lucky to have many amazing allies—both men and women—and to be part of incredible women-in-business and tech forums. But while I see a lot of these groups focused on how to help women thrive in male-dominated environments, we often avoid an uncomfortable truth: 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚𝙨, 𝙞𝙩’𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙢𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙞𝙩 𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙪𝙨. I don’t know about you, but this has been an ongoing challenge for me personally. Forget about work, I’ve had to change my tennis club three times in the past few years because I found it hardwork to break into some of the preexisting female cliques in those sports clubs. So, I want to ask, when was the last time you truly supported another woman instead of competing with her? 🎯Hired a woman you knew was more talented and that she might surpass you? 💡 🎯Advocated for another woman when she wasn’t in the room? Specially for those who are at your same level? 🔊 🎯 Refrained from scrolling through someone’s LinkedIn profile, trying to figure out if she’s a threat before she even joins your team? 🧐 🎯Focused on collaboration with women rather than competition? 🤝 🎯 Reached out to someone outside your familiar circle and invited her in? 🎯Celebrated another woman’s success without feeling the need to compare yourself? 🎉 So here’s my invitation: When’s the next forum where we look each other in the eye and say, ‘𝙄𝙩’𝙨 𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙨 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙪𝙨’?
