It has been a little over a decade since the first legal adult-use cannabis sales took place in the U.S. A lot has changed since then — and a lot has not. Where do we go from here? In the latest Weed Wonks, Jordan Wellington hosts fellow cannabis policy dinosaurs Michael Bronstein and Chris Lindsey of the American Trade Association for Cannabis and Hemp (ATACH) for an in-depth look at where legalization stands 12 years after Colorado and Washington became the first states to authorize adult-use cannabis, and why policy must continue to be crafted responsibly so that marijuana legalization does not become a cautionary tale. We need to stop the MYTH that legacy cannabis is not clean without testing each product. I have seen some really gross conditions for “clean legal cannabis.” As well most legal operators cut corners, pull early and most, if not all, don’t know how to properly cure flower. I will be the first to say legal cannabis has staled out cannabis for the customer bc the people creating and running these companies don’t understand the niches. They’re just here for money like most of you without a real source of expertise for cannabis consumption or the plant at all. So stop complaining about an “unfair market” and get with the program. Produce BETTER cannabis and STOP blaming the traditional market for your inability to create a profitable cannabis business. #sorryyouarenotreallytheculture 🤷🏽♂️ #sorrynotsorrythatyoucantrunabusiness #donthavetobeanexpertbutstayinyourlane

The term ‘legacy’ is used often in craft cannabis. Many people have a background in the illicit cannabis days and are proud to share that. The way legal cannabis operates is quite different from those days. Yet there’s many excellent qualities that got you through prohibition that will serve you well in legal cannabis. 🌿🌟 It can be hard to define legacy though. It’s even harder to share it in a way that connects with consumers. You can talk about legacy all day long, but if consumers don’t know what you mean or see it as important to themselves they don’t hear you. Talking about legacy won’t have the impact you want it to. Your efforts and resources to share what is important to you are wasted. ✔️ Helping your buyers understand what legacy is and why it matters to them is critical if you want to use legacy as a way to market your products. ➡️ What do you think are the most important aspects about legacy cannabis to share with consumers? ps- If you don’t think legacy matters in cannabis I’m interested in your perspective on that too. . #craftcannabis #cannabisindustry #cannabisbusiness #phenologic

Always happy to partner with CEB - #1 for California Law on all-things #California #cannabis. I recently put on a .75 CLE about Local Land Use & Zoning of Cannabis Businesses in the Golden State. In that chat, I talk about the struggle of local control and how #landuse and #zoning are major tools in California to control the local cannabis trade (using LA and SF as prime examples). If you need some CLEs or just want to know what's happening locally in California (which, it's no secret that the state is basically dead for licensed cannabis activity), tune in now! https://lnkd.in/gyQCqTuu

When Minnesota’s recreational marijuana bill was being written in 2023 and revised in 2024, it was established by sponsors on a few basic policy pillars. When Minnesota’s recreational marijuana bill was being written in 2023 and revised in 2024, it was established by sponsors on a few basic policy pillars. It would replace as much as possible an illegal market with a legal, regulated and taxed market; it would stress social equity to help those most harmed by illegality to benefit by legality; and it would try to foster a home-grown business modeled on the craft beer industry. That is, as much as was legally possible, the state model was to keep out large, out-of-state companies that could use their size and wealth to overwhelm the market. Two of those pillars were on display last week in a Ramsey County courtroom—at least a Zoom version of one. There, a whole passel of lawyers representing a varied collection of social equity certified license applicants were asking a judge to order the state to delay a lottery to award the first 280 cannabis licenses. 🚀 The First Bold Step Towards Cannabis Freedom 🌿 California's pioneering attempt to legalize marijuana in 1972 marked a significant moment in cannabis history. Though it didn't pass, it set the stage for future reform! 🌱✨ On November 7, 1972, California Proposition 19, also known as the California Marijuana Initiative (CMI), became the first-ever ballot measure in U.S. history to attempt marijuana legalization. This groundbreaking effort aimed to remove penalties for adults aged 18 and over for the use, possession, cultivation, and transport of marijuana for personal use. Despite a robust grassroots campaign that qualified the ballot for June 1972, Proposition 19 was ultimately defeated, with 66.5% voting against it and 33.5% in favor. While it did not pass, this initiative laid the groundwork for future cannabis legalization movements. 🌿📜 🌱Disclaimer: This Video/Post is for educational and informational purposes only For More Information/News Follow Us: Get Your MMJ Card Click The Link In Our Bio: . . . #wearesunajne #cannabishistory #Proposition19 #trailblazers #cannabishistory #Proposition1972 #californiamarijuanainitiative #marijuanalegalization #cannabismovement #californiahistory #cannabisreform

Cannabis Companies Head East for New Green Pastures in the First Half of 2023 - https://lnkd.in/gZz3Uf4c The old adage “go west” no longer applies to corporate cannabis, as several multi-state operators fled long-established legal markets in California, Oregon and Washington since January in favor of emerging markets on the East Coast. Meanwhile, as more states came online, continued growing pains showed these newer states have not quite learned everything they needed to from the mistakes of earlier adopters of legal adult-use cannabis. Connecticut finally launched its adult-use cannabis market on Jan. 10, about 18 months after the state’s legislature voted to legalize. Missouri came online on Feb. 6, while Maryland’s nascent adult use market launched on […]
