Building on Aunty's insightful post, let's honor Eddie Mabo's legacy this June 3rd, Mabo Day, by reflecting on his enduring impact. I urge you to watch this video, underscoring the significance of Eddie's efforts then and now, and highlighting the ongoing challenges and successes in preserving his work amidst contemporary struggles to undermine Indigenous land rights. We can all play a positive role in speaking up, getting involved and elevating the understanding around Mabo Day and land rights all year around. https://lnkd.in/gc4Bw_UH

WARNING: This post contains images and names of Indigenous people who have died. 🌟 Today, on June 3rd, we commemorate Mabo Day and the last day of National Reconciliation Week. 👉 Eddie Mabo was a trailblazer who dedicated his life to advocating for Indigenous land rights. His relentless efforts culminated in the landmark 1992 High Court decision known as the Mabo decision. 🌱 This historic ruling overturned the unjust concept of "terra nullius," acknowledging the inherent rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to their lands and waters. It was a pivotal moment that paved the way for native title in Australia. 💔 Sadly, Eddie Mabo passed away from cancer just five months before the court's decision. However, his legacy lives on through Mabo Day, a day dedicated to honouring his tireless activism and the ongoing struggle for Indigenous land rights. 🙌 Today, let's reflect on Eddie Mabo's courage and resilience, and reaffirm our commitment to justice and Reconciliation. #MaboDay #IndigenousRights #Reconciliation #ReconciliationAustralia #PracticalReconciliation #NRW2024

This President is surely cut from a different cloth.
It’s not often that I’m truly inspired by a political leader. But yesterday I was deeply moved. With Katrin Taylor I had the privilege to meet the new President of Botswana, Advocate Duma Boko, as he spent an evening with Batswana living and working in Europe. The first thing that struck me is what it means to have a human rights lawyer as Head of State. He gave a touching story of seeing, as a boy, a man being led through his home village in handcuffs to the kgotla. Bringing tears to his eyes, he said that was the moment he was determined to be a human rights defender. He spoke of his greatest achievements being saving his clients from death row. I have watched him in his first weeks of power undo some of the biggest stains on Botswana’s human rights record; the treatment of Indigenous G/wi and G//ana from Central Kgalagadi Game Reserve. He had that particular humility and humanity that is such a characteristic of so many of my countrymen and women, coming from a small and previously poor and rural country. Something I don’t always see as I interact with political leaders from so many other countries in the world, through my work in the United Nations system. As we grew up hearing from those who had spent more years on this earth than us – ‘motho ke motho ka batho ba bangwe’- ‘a person reaches their full humanity through how they interact with other people’. He spoke of walking barefoot to primary school each morning. He deflected from himself and took time to hear all our stories, those who had come to meet him. He invited us all to contribute to building a new Botswana, one for all her people, and not just a privileged few. As I finish my mandate next year in Rome as Director of International Land Coalition, I’m with you Mr President. Re go utlwile Tautona. Pula! Tle ke ye go phutha dikobo…

Message from Shagufe, our ED: Canada’s history is layered with complexities, and it’s our shared responsibility to peel back those layers and truly understand. On National Truth and Reconciliation Day, I had the profound honor of joining a livestream hosted by Grandmother’s Voice. As a newcomer to this land, I found myself reflecting deeply on my role, privileges, and intersecting identities. Three things I was reminded of: 1. Indigenous identities today are a beautiful tapestry, where ‘white names’ and spirit names are interwoven with countless threads of history, culture, and resilience. 2. The power of truth—and how it cuts through even the deepest darkness, revealing what has long been hidden. 3. Knowledge is passed down through song—each note a vessel of ancestral wisdom, carrying the stories of generations with grace. White Spotted Horse spoke beautifully of quiet, simmering pain—trauma left unchecked that consumes lives, much like the legacy of residential schools. Over 4,100 children died in those schools, and thousands of Indigenous women and girls remain missing or murdered. This resonates not only because of Canada’s past but also due to the violence faced by Indigenous communities in Bangladesh. Recent attacks in the Chittagong Hill Tracts left at least 17 dead as these communities fight for their rights and survival. What haunts me most is how these stories—whether in Canada or Bangladesh—are bound by the same thread of suffering, reminding us that the pain of erasure and violence knows no borders. The most profound reminder was our collective duty to honor these spirits, to learn the truths of this land and others, and to make reconciliation more than a word—it must be the heartbeat of our future. #EveryChildMatters #TruthAndReconciliation #IndigenousPeople

#perspective: Big win for Raila as top AU organ makes crucial decision today #excerpt February 28, 2024 "Raila's AU bid: Why proposed change to election rules may lock Raila out of context" https://lnkd.in/dnwviyeV March 10, 2024 "Huddles to Raila’s path to AUC chairperson position" https://lnkd.in/dbGfm_aC #Luos_prisoners_of_war The Luo are NEGRO; The Bene Israel ( lit. 'Sons of Israel'), also referred to as the "Shanivar Teli" ( lit. 'Saturday oil-presser'), Onagi or "Native Jew" caste. The Luo are prisoners of war; every country the Luo scattered elites have benefited heavily. Any country that refuses to oppress the Luo are destabilised. The greatest sin Gaddafi did was to adopted a Prince of the bloodline of 'Sons of Israel' in Uganda. Which was seen as a betrayal of the resolutions agreed upon during the Berlin Conference of 1884-1885, in which participants resolved to hunt down scattered Luo, eliminate and erase the Luo from history. The Luo have been patient, slowly worked on building East Africa Community; bring all 'Sons of Israel' in a single territory of East Africa federation ( biblical Isreal or the Land of the Jews). The Gentiles (Jomwa or Goyim) in the territory of Isreal will also be Sons of Israel. To block fulfilment of prophecies; western governments, agencies and elites designed a political and security system that oppresses the Luo. Upwards of $4.5 billion USD yearly, is spread into Kenya's democracy projects to maginalize Hamito semites; with particular focus on Luo Nyanza. 5 April 5, 2019 "Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) operating in Nyanza region received Sh45 billion from donors last year" https://lnkd.in/dxfSd2XZ Any political system that refuses to oppress and suppress the Luo became a threat to Zionists and white supremacists culture. Kenya is constantly being bombarded by lies targeted at the Bantu implying white superiority, to ease the dehuminization of the Luo in the guise of democracy. This has endeared the Bantu to western agencies and elites; Western agencies have engineered and sustained a system of elite capture in Kenya's governance system. NGOs sought to insert gender politics to block Raila Amolo Odinga, Son of Jaramogi Ajuma Adonijah Oginga Odinga to be the next African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson. #Note: Ajuma (Youm Jumu'ah ("day of congregation"), or simply Jumu'ah means Friday in Arabic. ) Y & J are also I, thus Youm is Ioum (luo lumu'ah) The name 'Jaramogi' means the disciple of Ramogi; Raila means two words 'Ra + ilah ; Muslims use “RA” after the name of male Sahabis, who are friends or companions of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). ʾIlāh is an Arabic term meaning "god". In Arabic, ilah refers to anyone or anything that is worshipped. Jowi in dholuo; Jowi ·1. Buffalo · 2. A fly whisk made of buffalo's tail · 3. A crescent shaped shield. 'Jo' is also people of 'wi' Wi (mythology), a Lakota deity
