With the news of another TikTok ban looming on the horizon, it feels like this happens at least once every year and a half. I don’t want Tik Tok to go anywhere because I personally have grown into a full-time creator leveraging it. However, there are three important takeaways to know if you are a creator or business with most of your audience on Tik Tok, regardless of whether it’s banned or not (hopefully it’s not) : 📣 1. You need to start cross promoting: You should be pushing people from your TikTok over to your Instagram. If you don’t have any other accounts, Instagram and YouTube are great if you have a younger audience. If you have an older audience, push them over to a Facebook page. Make one today, get started! 🔁 2. Repost all of your content: you can get an app like SnapTik to download the video files and repost them over on YouTube or Instagram and start building your audience there! 👨👦👦 3. Stay diversified: you need to make sure that matter what happens, just like we saw with Vine, you have other platforms that you can bring your audience over to. Don’t ever get caught with just one platform! You don’t need to be on all of them, but you should definitely be diversified on about 3 that you enjoy, put those other platforms to use. Aside from LinkedIn, I have not had any social media accounts since 2019. Studies show the average person spends over 6 hours per day looking at screens, with almost 3 of those hours spent on mobile devices, consuming a constant stream of audio-visual content. Human brains are not optimized for this type of continuous, passive consumption; they are optimized for in-person conversations and kinetic interactions with a physical environment. While I understand the challenges the upcoming potential TikTok ban poses for creators and employees, I believe dopamine-driven apps that bypass critical thinking and offer little lasting value ultimately create a societal net negative.
