Interest rates feel so high, but really they're not. All things are relative but rates and yields reflect the market's assessment of things to come - right or wrong. Market observers and politicians from all sides are adding noise, but this reflects a short term memory. Let's use the 10-year US Treasury as an indicator for now - it currently stands at 4.30% as I type this. For our short-term memory this level was last seen just ahead of the 2008 meltdown. That means that for people entering the marketplace or workforce in the last 14-years 4.30% is as high as it gets. But looking back from there, except for a brief moment in 2003 the last time the 10-year US Treasury was 4.30% or less was 1965. That's 40-years above 4.30% with many periods of expansion and people buying houses in between. So think about the long term. Our current levels of rates may be just fine for the future.  Reply Reply all Forward
