In most #clinicaltrials, the cost of research interventions is typically covered by the sponsor or through a grant from a governmental or private organization. When research activities lack this financial support, researchers must consider alternative models. However, there are significant concerns with expecting participants to bear the financial burden of research participation, even when the study closely resembles standard medical care. At WCG, our general position is research participants should not have to pay for their research intervention, including participant’s direct costs in different types of studies, from clinical trials of high-risk FDA-regulated products to unregulated novel concepts. In our latest insight, we dive into several layers of issues to address when discussing studies that require participants to pay to participate. Evidence is growing to support the value of engaging patients as research partners, along with other stakeholders, in the clinical research process. Given their vested interest in the findings, their unique perspective and contribution significantly influence the quality of research. When patients are engaged as research partners, enrolment rates are boosted, and the feasibility, rigor and relevance of clinical studies are increased. This was a view shared with us by physician Bart Viaene in a recent post entitled ‘Why are patient initiatives important for good access to medical data?’ and echoes the rallying cry of #PatientAdvocates everywhere – “Nothing about us without us”. The Andaman7 solution advances patient-mediated research by allowing patients to own, store and decipher their health data and opt in to clinical research. With eConsent, electronic patient reported outcomes (ePRO) and real-world evidence (RWE) capabilities built into our innovative solution, Andaman7 can partner with large academic, governmental, and professional networks and medical providers, to make research programmes faster, cheaper, and more efficient. Happy International Clinical Trials Day! Today, we celebrate the remarkable contributions of clinical trials to the advancement of medical science. Clinical trials are the backbone of medical research, helping to develop new treatments, improve existing therapies, and enhance our understanding of various health conditions. On this day, we honor the dedication of all the professionals involved in clinical trials - researchers, healthcare providers, and especially the participants who volunteer for these studies. Their commitment is instrumental in driving medical progress and ensuring that new treatments are safe and effective. Clinical Trials Day also reminds us of the importance of ethical standards and rigorous scientific methodologies. It's a day to reflect on the strides we've made in patient safety, data integrity, and the overall quality of clinical research. Let's continue to support and advocate for clinical trials, recognizing their vital role in improving global health outcomes. Together, we can advance science and bring hope to patients around the world. Enhancing Research Transparency with CONSORT Guidelines. In clinical research, transparency, accuracy, and reproducibility are paramount. The CONSORT Guidelines (Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials) play a crucial role in ensuring that clinical trials are reported with the rigor they deserve. By following CONSORT, researchers can: Improve the clarity of their trial reports Ensure comprehensive documentation of trial design, methods, and outcomes Aid in reproducibility and peer review Enhance trust in published results As the importance of high-quality clinical trials continues to grow, so does the need for standardized reporting. CONSORT is a critical tool for elevating research integrity across the field. For anyone involved in designing, conducting, or evaluating clinical trials, we encourage you to dive deeper into these guidelines and consider how they can support your work. #ClinicalResearch #ResearchTransparency #CONSORTGuidelines #ClinicalTrials #ResearchIntegrity #MedicalWriting #TrialReporting #ResearchStandards #PeerReview #EvidenceBasedMedicine #Reproducibility #ScientificResearch #ResearchMethods #MedicalResearch #HealthTech #PharmaResearch
