WCG IRB’s Post

In most #clinicaltrials, the cost of research interventions is typically covered by the sponsor or through a grant from a governmental or private organization. When research activities lack this financial support, researchers must consider alternative models.  However, there are significant concerns with expecting participants to bear the financial burden of research participation, even when the study closely resembles standard medical care. At WCG, our general position is research participants should not have to pay for their research intervention, including participant’s direct costs in different types of studies, from clinical trials of high-risk FDA-regulated products to unregulated novel concepts.  In our latest insight, we dive into several layers of issues to address when discussing studies that require participants to pay to participate.
