The most significant structural change to the CSF is the addition of a sixth function, Govern, around which the previous five functions of Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond, and Recover. This addition serves several purposes: it aims to integrate cybersecurity with broader enterprise risk management (ERM), roles and responsibilities, policy, and oversight at an organization, as well as better support communication of cybersecurity risk to executives.

The most critical question to answer for any cyber risk assessment—internal or external—is, “Where are the biggest risks across the enterprise, and how can I manage and mitigate them?” This means having a clear, single view of risks across business divisions and geographies, along with a quantified understanding of how much exposure risks represent in dollar terms. Governance, risk and compliance platforms and artificial intelligence can help. #cyber #security #GRC

Cybersecurity Just Got an Upgrade! The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has released version 2.0 of its Cybersecurity Framework (CSF), and it's a game-changer. What's new in CSF 2.0? - Emphasis on supply chain security - Governance as a critical part of cybersecurity - New resources to make implementation easier Why does this matter? In today's interconnected world, cyber threats are constantly evolving. Organizations need a comprehensive framework to manage risk effectively. CSF 2.0 provides that framework, with a focus on the full cybersecurity lifecycle. The addition of the "Govern" function is a significant change, reflecting the importance of incorporating cyber risk management throughout an organization's corporate governance structure. NIST has also provided a wealth of resources to help businesses put CSF 2.0 into practice, including implementation examples, mapping tools, and quick-start guides. As compliance and regulatory controls become increasingly significant in 2024, frameworks like CSF 2.0 serve as a core foundation that can be easily overlaid with other frameworks specific to different controls and verticals. Is your organization ready to embrace the future of cybersecurity?
