What do Jeopardy, Prompting GPTs, Hosting Podcasts, SMU Class Participation, and Panel Moderation Have in Common? It's all about listening, and questioning. I recall serving as a teaching assistant at SMU, where one key task involved assessing students on the quality of their class participation. The best students didn't just regurgitate their readings—they listened attentively, absorbing diverse viewpoints and knowledge. This active listening enabled them to ask insightful questions, turning our 3-hour seminars into dynamic cycles of learning and understanding. Now, let’s talk about GPTs and Jeopardy! GPTs, like all-knowing oracles, can answer almost anything—but the quality of their responses depends on the questions you ask. It’s an iterative process: ask a question, listen to the answer, and refine your next question. Success on Jeopardy! also hinges on knowing a little bit about everything and listening carefully to each clue. Contestants must constantly adapt and iterate their questioning to stay ahead, demonstrating how iteration hones our learning. My biggest takeaway when working on Surbana Jurong Group's podcast was learning to be a professional listener. I had to pick up on subtle cues and interesting points raised by experts, asking follow-up questions to keep the conversation engaging. By iterating on the guest's responses, I learned to create content that’s both entertaining and informative. Panel moderation takes this to another level. A good moderator listens carefully to each panelist, synthesizes their points, and asks questions that deepen the discussion. It’s all about building on what’s been said to keep the conversation flowing and insightful. In all these examples, listening and questioning are at the core of how we learn and communicate. They’re not just skills; they’re fundamental to what it means to be human. Whether in a classroom, with an AI, on a game show, hosting a podcast, or moderating a panel, the ability to listen and ask the right questions drives deeper understanding and more meaningful interactions. And if I may be so bold, they make us human. Stay curious!

Podcasting has been part of my job since 2005 (no, really, I can prove it - https://lnkd.in/eMhp6ZxA )and just as the medium has evolved, so has my thinking on it. Today, for a lark, I plugged a few different GPT models into 19 years of notes and articles I've written, and asked them all the same question: based on my notes, what is a good definition of podcasting? The shortest came from Snoozy (yes, Snoozy): Podcasting is a digital audio or video series offering episodic content that listeners can stream or download to engage with topics of interest. Then, a model called Mistral OpenOrca (what is it with AI and these names?): Podcasting is a digital audio or video format that provides episodic content for listeners to stream or download, covering various topics such as storytelling, education, entertainment, and news. Unlike traditional radio, it offers more flexibility in consumption and caters to diverse interests. But here's the one that nailed it, from my good buddy Chad (OpenAI's GPT-4, via the Smart Connections plugin to my Obsidian Vault): A digital audio or video series offering episodic content that listeners can stream or download to engage with topics of interest, ranging from storytelling and education to entertainment and news. Unlike traditional radio, podcasts provide a platform for direct creator-listener engagement, often leveraging subscription models, social media, and advanced technologies like AI for personalized content delivery and interaction. This dynamic medium transcends the limitations of traditional distribution methods like RSS feeds, integrating seamlessly into daily life through various devices and platforms, offering a unique blend of intimacy, community, and accessibility to audiences worldwide. You read my mind, Chad! What say you? Given that this is based solely on what I have written over the years, you might claim GI,GO, but I think it's pretty defensible.

𝐓𝐋;𝐃𝐑: I recently discovered Google’s NotebookLM, a remarkable tool that transforms textbooks into personalized podcasts. Here’s how I learned a complex subject in just 20 minutes. 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐚 𝐓𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐢𝐧 𝟐𝟎 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐬 Just when I thought the productivity boost from tools like ChatGPT couldn’t be surpassed, I stumbled upon a gem from Google: NotebookLM. This free tool turns any topic into a personalized podcast, and it has completely captivated me! Here’s a quick example of its power: Not long ago, I watched a brief online video in which a professor articulated the difference between managers and leaders in just five minutes. Intrigued, I researched him and discovered he teaches Decision Theory at a Swedish university. Its focus is on making the best choices in uncertain conditions. Though I had little knowledge of Decision Theory, it felt relevant. I yearned to learn more, but the introductory textbook I found was 80 pages long. Reading it would demand anywhere from a day to a week, depending on my schedule—and I questioned whether I couldn’t find the time or if the topic was worth my effort. This is where NotebookLM emerged as a lifesaver. Instead of trudging through the book, I uploaded it to the platform. In a few minutes, it generated a 20-minute podcast summarizing the key ideas, discoveries, and conclusions in clear, digestible language. I listened during my morning walk and gained a profound understanding of the subject. The outcome? Instead of spending a week deliberating on whether Decision Theory was worth exploring, I invested no additional time. The podcast was free, and the walk fit seamlessly into my daily routine. While this method won’t replace the depth of insights from reading full books, it’s perfect for sifting through your “read later” list and quickly expanding your horizons. If you’re inspired to give it a try, here are a few things to consider: 1. You’ll need a VPN set to the US to access the service. 2. The podcast will be in English; a B2 proficiency level is more than adequate. 3. Embrace NotebookLM while it’s still free. Google can be unpredictable, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they start charging for it or phase it out. This tool has truly transformed my learning experience. If you’re eager to absorb new information efficiently, I wholeheartedly encourage you to give it a shot!

🚀 Turning Written Content Into Podcasts with NotebookLM: Our Test Drive At Conexkt, we recently tested NotebookLM’s Audio Overview feature, which turns written content into AI-generated podcasts. The idea is simple: feed the tool with URLs, documents, or slides, and it creates a podcast-style discussion with AI hosts. 🎧📄 🛠️ We ran a few experiments using content from our website, and while there are still some kinks—like repetitive tones and a familiar structure to every "podcast"—the results were pretty fascinating. You get a solid summary of your content, with AI hosts connecting ideas and delivering it in an easy-to-digest audio format. Sure, there are glitches in transitions and pronunciation, but the pace of AI improvement here is impressive. 📈 We can already see the potential for: - Training materials: Easily turn manuals, documents, or presentations into audio learning sessions for teams. - Podcasts on different topics: Quickly create engaging discussions on key topics for internal or external audiences. - Project-based notebooks: Generate one Notebook per project you’re working on, allowing you to keep track of all sources and updates in a convenient, audio-friendly format. 🎙️ Curious about how it works? Give it a try and let us know how you’d use it! ➡️ Listen to the full podcast here: https://lnkd.in/gry2u73D #AI #NotebookLM #Podcasting #TechInBusiness #Productivity #Conexkt
