You hire the person. Not their resume. 👀 Quick hiring story gone wrong for you: I was at one of the fastest growing tech companies. And I was placing a Head of Engineering. We found the "perfect" candidate: - FAANG engineering background - Led 1000+ person team - Impressive past wins Seemed safe right? We chose them thinking: ✅ Past performance = ✨ Future success Spoiler: ❌ Not always... Within < 6 months? They were gone. The cost was steep for us: - $200,000+ in salary and onboarding - Stalled product development - Team morale hit We need to stop treating hiring like a checklist: - Years of experience - Past company logos - Team size managed None of these predict success. What matters is: - Can they execute in YOUR environment - Will they solve YOUR problems - Do they fit YOUR stage Sometimes the scrappy startup engineer Is better than the FAANG veteran P.S.
